@owlstalk Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago Supporters of both the Owls and Sheffield United are encouraged to plan their journeys ahead of Sunday, following changes to the Sheffield Supertram schedule. There are no trams serving Hillsborough from 10:00am-12:00pm, where the service will terminate at the Cathedral. Normal service resumes at kick-off, 12:00pm. Trams to Hillsborough will terminate again, accessible only from Shalesmoor between 1:00pm-3:00pm. A replacement bus service has been provided, with buses running every 12 minutes to cover the affected blue and yellow tram routes. Tram tickets will be accepted on the replacement bus service. 1 Owlstalk Shop

If they are putting replacement buses on surely just use the trams? What’s the difference? 1 4

Perhaps with bus services it's a way of better diluting volume of passengers for potential comings-together. Best I can offer as to "why." I suppose the actual question should be "Why have a public transportation system with a route designed to transport folk from a city centre to a football ground, if it's not going to be used at times where people specifically need transportation from a city centre to a football ground?" 2 1 5
owll80 Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago Fortunately I’m not in a position where I need to use it..but it’s lousey for those who really could do with it.
Joe Jockstrap Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago I’m no Nostradamus but I predict it’s going to be carnage. Thousands hanging around trying to get to town, buses, Jesus are they magic buses that can’t be damaged? Simply don’t full the trams to breaking point, roll out a few more trams obviously and have a couple of cops in each carriage. Any trouble and they can wield their new Slazenger Sport DNA thingies. Lazy from the Council I’m afraid, letting the minority spoil it for the majority. 4

The Council or SYMCA don't overule the police. Recommendation from SYP based on evidence from previous years. Essentially they're are fair few idiots who spoil it for an awful lot of others, no need to scapegoat the council. However we have a culture in Sheffield for people blaming the council so why not eh. 5
Animis Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago do they suspend the trams in Manchester when the derby is played at Old Trafford? 2

Sorry but I worked for the Council and they should be blamed, they are clueless. Joking aside, IMO the Council and Police should have created a solution that included trams doing what trams do, transporting people from a to b. We’ll see what happens tomorrow, it should be entertaining to say the least.

leftpeg Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago (edited) Buses are easier to police, trams have multiple carriages, much more potential hiding spots for trouble. Buses are much easier to "split" if they want to divide home and away support or police if there is a potential spot of trouble spotted. It is also much easier to spot problems on a bus, divert a bus, or stop a bus than it is a tram. I am pretty sure that is SYP logic. Edited 20 hours ago by leftpeg 1
