Glasgow is basically one big Moss Side. There isn't a Wilmslow or Alderley Edge for players to live up there.

Glasgow is incredibly similar to Sheffield in terms of it's history and social makeup.  You even get some of the same people turning up like John Brown.

They've even got a massive national park on their doorstep like Sheffield.

There are plenty of posh bits with massive villa houses, particularly in the West End around the Kelvin and up the Great Western Road.  Mind you, their local side would be Partick Thistle.

Having said all that, last time I was there we were watching a string quartet in the Merchant's House and a fight broke out in the very middle class audience, which sort of undermines my argument.

Used to work with a bloke who spent his early life in the 70s living in Glasgow.  He used to get beaten up regularly at school for being English.

My first girlfriend was the daughter of the (then) Celtic CEO. Needless to say he didn't live in a council flat.

My boss is also a massive Celtic fan and they're p*ssed off that their board sold all their better players, held out on signings (which cost them Champions League football arguably), then brought in a few token signings late in the day. They don't feel like their support is matched by the ambition (or lack thereof) of the board.

I used to drink with a guy who was originally from Govan and grew up in Glasgow in the 70's. A real tough looking bloke with the scars to show.

He ended up working all round the UK contracting and when I asked him what the roughest town he'd worked and drank in, his answer straight away was Gainsborough in the early 80's.

It felt like a badge of honour at the time. He didn't know that I spent the first 30 years of my life there.

Celtic have cash reserves of over £70m. They seem to be saving it for a rainy day, but it never comes because they win the league at a canter most years. With the state of Rangers, they won't need to spend it. Hearts will become Brighton's feeder club, which is all nice but they'll never keep a decent player longer than 2 transfer windows

Hearts to become the new dominant force anyway.

Best thing that could happen to Scottish football is Hearts & Rangers going toe to toe with Celtic...

Tight title race instead of winning by 20pts in March would create far more media interest internationally... Better players may be attracted to the league as a result..

SPL needs some competition back.

It's always going to be the poorer relation to the game down south, but the product has been massively hit with Celtic completely bossing it for much of the last decade.

You go back 20 or so years and you see the quality of player that the Old Firm had and now you look at it.

Absolute night and day.

Cash money init. Players can go to Championship teams and out earn even the big 2! And without the big European nights around so much any more players see the Championship as a better option!

Pretty much.

The league doesn't make a huge amount and the gap between the Old Firm and the rest in term of turnover is staggering.

I used to live there in the late 80s. It was a bit grim especially after moving from Pitsmoor. Took a while to settle in but was fine after I learned how to Manc Walk.

Arguably in the sense that Brendan Rogers surely still had enough to beat the champions of Kazakhstan.

Looking at the Celtic board it is reminiscent of our old care home crew. Saw that most of them were there when O'Neill was manager the first time.
