0wl18 Posted October 9 Posted October 9 Blackburn were 1-0 up, with Ipswich down to 10 men, when their game was called off in the 80th minute due to the pitch becoming waterlogged. The EFL have ruled the game needs to be replayed in its entirety. Seems unfair IMO. I’ve seen it somewhere suggested that the EFL could easily have allowed to result to stand. Surely that would have been a better outcome considering it would have likely been the result and the game continued.

Yes they were down to 10 but 10minutes+ is a long time in football. I get the argument and how it's unfair on Blackburn but the only options for me was; To play out the last 10 - This can be seen as unfair as both sets of teams would be more 'fresh". Also seems silly to get all the fans back in for 10 minutes. Replay the whole game.

Its a much fairer outcome than starting the game from scratch.
scram Posted October 9 Posted October 9 I think it's unfair but it's such a rare event Hard to account for such events really 1

But whilst ever there's a chance of a team getting something from the game it's a tricky situation.
torryowl Posted October 11 Posted October 11 It's a no brainer a football match is 90+ minutes long and that one wasn't .......if it was 0-0 when called off the result wouldn't have stood so why would it at 1-0.. 1
SiJ Posted October 11 Posted October 11 It has to be replayed. For a bit of extra context: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/25328560#:~:text=Wigan were denied victory against,24th minute strike at Hillsborough. Pretty sure we won the rematch too.

Don't remember that at all. Anyway I've checked 11v11 website and looks like we got tonked 3-0 when it was replayed.....

Remember that game. Absolutely hammered it down. Remember JJ making a slide tackle that went on for about 5 minutes, just before it was abandoned
Beighton Owl 87 Posted October 11 Posted October 11 Forgot we had 3 Johnson's in the same team. Think about a year or two before that we had 3 Jones' in the same team too.
ruscol85 Posted October 14 Posted October 14 There’d have been about 10 mins added on as well due to stoppages so in reality, 20 mins left to play. Correct decision.
