If the young lads still physically developing pick up injuries they obviously impact their development because they're out injured rather than training and playing. But if they get recurring injuries or do long term damage it could genuinely be the difference between an OK career in league 2 against perhaps a championship level player.... 10-15 years career at a completely different level (and being compensated very differently)....
