Popular Post owlsite Posted Tuesday at 13:48 Popular Post Posted Tuesday at 13:48 Ron was my hero. Such a safe pair of hands any high ball in the area was usually his. You don’t see a lot of that kind of aerial confidence and ability these days in my opinion. He also had a superb understanding with Peter Swan, my other hero. That 1960/61/62 team was my all time favourite especially under Harry Catterick and the kit they wore, particularly with the hooped socks, was my all time favourite. Perhaps it was because I was young and impressionable at the time but I’d love us to play in hooped socks again. 3 9

I remember him at Wembley as we beat the jocks 9-3 prompting my response to any of my jock army buddies when they they asked me the time... " nine past Haffey " the unfortunate Scotland keeper that day. And us beating the Rest of The world Team with my other favourite England here jimmy Greaves scoring the winner . There was a brilliant photo of him in one of the Sunday papers...in the snow away at Burnley...it was taken from the sidelines and showed him horizontal just under the bar catching the ball as he plucked it out of the top corner. I've tried all over to find it but never did. RIP Ron xx Looks like it was 29 December 1962, lost 4-0 at Burnley. Have looked at the newspaper archives and can't see the picture you mention though.

christo Posted Tuesday at 14:35 Posted Tuesday at 14:35 This needs to be confirmed. I remember a game against QPR at Hillsborough. When Peter Springett made his debut and Ron played for QPR, or at least moved to QPR the day.

Got a signed black and white photograph of him with the programme. Always wanted to be a keeper like him but, in truth I couldn't catch a cold. Still have a picture of him on my laptop. Great keeper. 2

We played them at Hillsborough in the 1st Division 14th Dec 1968. I was there. We won 4-0 in front of 22004. Ron and Peter both played. You might be thinking of Jan 1967 when we played them at Hillsborough in the fac. We won 3-0 and Ron was playing for us. Ritchie hat trick. 40,038 Inc me again. 1 1

REDOWL Posted Tuesday at 16:00 Posted Tuesday at 16:00 This feature about Peter Springett is from the match day programme v Queens Park Rangers on Saturday 31st August 1991. 1
Colin Dobson Posted Tuesday at 16:03 Posted Tuesday at 16:03 2 great Wednesday teams in my lifetime but because I was just a kid the Catterick team takes the palm ahead of the early 90's brigade. Fantham, Kay & Springett were my favourites but I loved them all. Ron Springett though! Greatest Wednesday keeper of all time? Nobody alive will be able to make a case for Jack Brown so it has t be Ron & we've had some good ones. 3
