He can't be arsed paying wages so I don't think appearance fees will trouble him.

He is paying all the wages eventually…..just playing mind games delaying payments with seemingly little communication or warning. It’s cruel and shows he either has no heart or he’s a madman.

Is this a thing?! 😂

Yes its quite common in footballers contracts to get appearance fees

I remember reading in Lee Sharpes autobiography that when they weren’t getting paid when he was a Bradford although it’s demoralising, you’ll always get fully paid up if you pay into the PFA they will cover it eventually should the employer not .

I really hope you are right, but playing devil's advocate a little bit, some players also have an unused substitute clause which means they get a sum if they dont even appear. Some players in some cases I suspect have a higher unused sub fee than appearance fee, and therefore putting them for nominal minutes costs the club less.

Looking at ugbo for example (Potentially putting 2 and 2 together here and getting 5) A big money signing on a wave of good form, its not impossible that ugbo thought he should be playing so much there was a financial penalty to the club if he wasn't involved. In 9 league games so far, ugbo has come on in the last minute for 3 of them, Including this sat when we were 5 down and most of the crowd were already home.

@oneeyedmilkman that’s something I never thought would be a thing…

When I saw Ugbo coming on for 2 mins I was wondering what the point was other than avoid cramp/injury to someone else

Whenever Ugbo comes on whether it be 2 minutes or 20 minutes before the end I wonder what is the point?

Something similar back in the day was when Harry Rednapp signed Robbie Keane (I think) and he asked for a bonus per goal and Harry said “What do you think we're paying you £50,000 a week for — to miss them?"

Harry probably had the goal written into his own contract

Didn't we reach a stage with Gary Madine where he kept getting the hook just before 70 minutes to save costs? Or was he just rubbish haha.

Ahhh! Gary Madine--Goal Machine!!  😄

I dont think players get any appearance money for coming on at that stage in game.

Ive read / seen somewhere the big cut off for monies is around the 60 minute mark.
