Is this a good idea for a protest? - Sheffield Wednesday Matchday - Owlstalk | Sheffield Wednesday News for SWFC fans Jump to content

I’ve said this before - this is a great idea as it actually increases the cost to him at every home game.

All it takes is people to stay in the ground for half an hour. Easy.

No risk of being banned or prosecution.

Would you be allowed to stay after full time but then leave 10mins before everyone else decided to leave to avoid the traffic though?

Would this be the same season ticket holder who sit in silence, buy food and drink at half time, because they are unable to last 90 minutes without alcohol, then leave after 60 minutes when our team of kids are losing 2-0

Or do we have some different ones?

What if fans go the home games - not a pound in the ground, black and gold until sold - importantly, support the team like every game is the Peterborough game, but then stay as long as possible after the final whistle.

This would create a new (albeit manageable) logistical headache, increase staff, stewarding and policing costs, be an audible protest during the post match interviews, it might be a chance to make a similar connection with the team as on away days, it also might get support from opposition fans, media attention and fans talking to each other.

If you want to tell me this is a rubbish idea, that's fine, of course, but please be gentle.  Like many, I worry about the current divisions and animosity between Wednesdayites.  I am an ex sth, went to my first Wednesday game on 29th April 1976, went home and away when I lived on the sarf coast for 10 years.  I won't bore you with more, but trust me, I could go on and on and on and on and on.  I live 4,000 miles away with my lovely family, not much dosh and a diagnosis.  If I was in the UK, nothing - nothing would stop me going to a game and I hate the idea that fellow fans  would want to stop me going to a game.

Don't get old, I've written that last bit and I can't remember why.  It doesn't seem relevant, but hey ho, it's done.  Have a great day.

Genuine question… but are you 100% sure?

Either way, I think fans would have more of an appetite to get behind this than storming the pitch during a game

No idea to be honest but a safer bet than going onto the pitch. Can’t remember seeing or hearing anywhere about rules on when you need to vacate stadium after match finishes

I like the idea..  Although I understand season ticket holders have already paid so not to go is no skin off DC's nose..  I had thought about maybe everyone could turn up 5mins late especially to a game that is broadcast on sky, that would look really good if the home crowd was completely missing at the start of the game..   I like the idea of staying on to try to increase costs however the staff would just ask you to leave and potentially you could be looking at tresspass or even agrivated tresspass if you refuse to leave..   I think coming into the game after 5mins like I say especially on a game shown on sky would have a more noticable and wider journalistic effect.

I think we missed a trick with the whistle protest.

It was unique, it had the club rattled so much so that they had to do an announcement over that tannoy.

Just because the Trust have to be seen to be doing the right thing in the eyes of the EFL and suggested it was done for 5 minutes ….didnt mean it couldn’t have continued.

Was a real shame that it wasn’t prolonged and got the game abandoned, even if only it was temporarily halted

And you can even blow the whistles from outside the stadium, so you don't have to buy a match day ticket and you've zero chance of getting into bother (blowing a whistle in public wasn't an offence the last time I looked?!)...

You should be OK with that providing you follow the ‘Whistleblowing Policy’.

Tried that at the Stoke game. By kick off time there were around 20 of us left outside the ground. Protesters had either gone in to the game or headed off home.

20 folk blowing whistles at the same time would surely have been able to disrupt the game?!
