People buy cup tickets to get the points that allow them easier access to get tickets for away games so they can turn up to chant against Chansiri and believe that they’re helping to defund him. I mean, how does that work? My point was in response to Essix Blue asking if we would have got the points we did against Brum and Pompey without the away support. But I get and agree with your post all the same.
gypsyowl Posted October 1 Posted October 1 when we're under new ownership, no matter what mess or league we find ourselves in, hillsborough is going to be a special place. Look at clubs who have big fan bases and go through some absolute shyte like we are at the minute and their fan base grows, not just in numbers but there's a real togetherness I use Leeds as an example, we all know they played at ER in front of half empty crowds, and can remember several times they came to Hillsborough and didn't even fill the upper tier. But look at where they are now on / off the pitch. They have waiting lists for season tickets. Leeds may be a bigger club in terms of they have more fans and more recent success than us, but doesn't mean when we come out of the other side Hillsborough is packed more often than just them big games at the end of the season and the steel city derby. It'll be worth it when we're there. 2 2

Looking back, I’m astonished at how many points we got when we played in empty stadiums a few years back! 1 1

Do they think we’d get a performance / result like last night without support? Or at Portsmouth? It's nice to think fans have an impact on performance, but we had an incredible showing against Leeds, when we hardly had any fans in the ground. 2 1

Popular Post sheffield blue Posted October 1 Popular Post Posted October 1 Just popped in for a few thoughts, yes your fans last night were very good, loudest I've seen at St Andrews for a long time, and that includes the likes of Newcastle who had the whole away end in the cup last year. Sorry you weren't allowed to take the flag in, I hope it was a lack of communication to the stewards. The team absolutely gave 100%, particularly when they went behind, which surprised me, they also played some good football. A draw just about a fair result. Not sure where it's all going to end up with the ownership issue, but I hope it gets sorted soon, and for what it's worth I agree with the home boycotts and still enjoying the away days. With the spirit and passion the fans and players show this will not be lost on prospective buyers. Good Luck. KRO 6 3 4

Do they think we’d get a performance / result like last night without support? Or at Portsmouth? Think some of the comments are a response to the criticism and sometimes vitriol, targeted towards anyone spending £5 on a pint in the bar or buying home tickets. Their arguement is backed up with the slogan “not a penny more”. So some are highlighting the discrepancy regards away fans also giving a small amounts to Chansiri. This is defended by comments like “the support impresses potential investors” and “the support helps spur on the players to play better” but these same arguments about away support could be used for home support by filling Hillsboro in these difficult times. Personally, I accept that people have different circumstances and don’t think home or away fans should be criticised. The finances being given to Chansiri by away fans and people buying home tickets, buying drinks in the bars etc is minimal. Overall it’s clear the effects of the boycotts is significant and having an effect on Chansiri and that’s all that matters.

The main boycott (for want of a better phrase), POTD attendance at home, is by far having the biggest effect. Around 6k missing every game. That’s a huge amount of money not going into the club. As has been said many times, the next one will be renewals. The vibe I feel is many, many fans won’t renew while DC is here - especially at early bird. My only worry is with the large reduction in the wage bill, can DC carry on even with the loss of income? There’s some very knowledgeable people on here when it comes to our clubs finances (P&L etc). I wonder what they estimate our income and outgoings is currently?
