beswetherick Posted September 21 Posted September 21 There’s a real gulf in class between the good (Chappers, Onuoha, Hart, Given, Logan) and the bad (Rooney, Walcott, Keown) Watching Rooney on MOTD is hard work, absolutely brilliant footballer but there’s no wonder he’s struggled as a coach on the basis of his punditry 1
Justbeanz Posted September 21 Posted September 21 Danny Murphy n all. I cudda put him in the grinds my gears thread. 1
Bannofan Posted September 21 Posted September 21 MOTD has lost some of its gravitas now Lineker has gone. I feel like I want presenters and pundits in shirts and ties again. There's too many changes in pundits now anyway, you knew where you were with Hansen & Lawrenson + one other.
owls maniac Posted September 21 Posted September 21 Is the show even relevant anymore in an era where you can watch the highlights in 2 minutes on YouTube? 1 2
owls89 Posted September 21 Posted September 21 MOTD just seems a bit low rent this year. Love him or loathe him, Lineker was a great broadcaster. 4

All I can do is echo these points... I can see why they split the main host duties as coming in for Lineker would be big shoes to fill but Chappers being the main man and Logan / Cates sharing MOTD2 duties would have been better.. I think Onuoha is fantastic, if he'd had the career that Rio / JT / Campbell had (or played for Liverpool!!) he'd be a weekly fixture on the show....
beswetherick Posted September 22 Posted September 22 I only recently learned that MOTD is broadcast live, which goes some way to explaining why some of the pundits aren’t very good. It’s still an institution in my house though, I usually watch on iplayer so if the pundits are crap I can just fast forward through them
markg Posted September 22 Posted September 22 Onuoha is one of the best pundits in the game for me and should be on way more stuff. Also really like Hart and Given. As hosts, I think Chapman and Logan are great, but I struggle with Kelly Cates. Just doesn't seem 'natural'. I think there is far too much rotation in the pundits and some of them are really poor. Walcott adds nothing in my view and Rooney is too hard to listen to. erm erm 1
BridportOwl Posted September 22 Posted September 22 Chapman is the best broadcaster in the country for me. Radio or television. Agree with the positive comments about Onuoho as well.

lukeyswfc Posted September 22 Posted September 22 Too much talking and no idea what they were thinking with some of the “pundits” Given up watching it. Most sides extended highlights on YouTube are much better to watch.

I'd love to hear more from him and less from the likes of Rooney and Murphy. Overall, I'm not a fan of the rotating cast format - it's too hit and miss. Just identify who you think the best pundits are and give them the gig, assuming they want it, of course. 1 1
