BigMikeSWFC Posted September 5 Posted September 5 With things as they are for Wednesday, I might have hoped for something of a break and a chance to enjoy some decent footy with the England games during the International break. However I haven’t been impressed with Tuchel at all so far. I’m assuming it’s going to be another couple of dreadful, utterly boring games. What does everyone else think about him? Will he still be in charge for the World Cup?
Maidstone Owl Posted September 6 Posted September 6 (edited) Dull as ditchwater and quite possibly one of the weakest England squads of "modern times" (whatever that means). Feel completely disinterested in England/International Football until the Quarter Finals of a World Club or the Semi Final or the Euros. Southgate was part of the problem. An absolute classic "Blue Blazer" FA style drone. He and his coaches only served to coach any modicum of flair, risk, attacking prowess and so on, out of nearly every single exciting young player that crossed their mediocre paths. TT seems similar? Arthur Bach Posted September 6 Posted September 6 Is international football as important and urgent as it used to be? Football is now such a cosmopolitan, global sport there simply isnt the 'exotic unknown' that came with internationals of decades gone by. Mix that with blanket television coverage and you get an apathy that relegates it to exhibition dirge where the players want to be anywhere but playing Moldova in the Nations League. 3

Yeah we were fantastic before Southgate took us to two finals and a semi final weren't we? 2 3
BigMikeSWFC Posted September 6 Author Posted September 6 Controversial I’m sure but I actually quite liked Southgate, although I do think everything became a bit stale towards the end. His record as England manager is, on paper at least, one of the best and that can’t be argued. 3
SiJ Posted September 6 Posted September 6 Too many international games are absolute gimmes. We all know that England are going to largely sail through the qualifiers. It makes the whole thing incredibly boring. As for Tuchel...a short term appointment from the FA. Let's see if he can somehow conjure up a world cup win. It won't happen.

SiJ Posted September 6 Posted September 6 Southgate did a good job with England. Yes, he probably didn't have it in him to win a major comp (got as close as you could mind) but his record at the major tournaments was excellent. They'll be the usual nonsense argument that he only did x because he had x players available to him, but absolutely no one expecting much of anything going into that 2018 World cup. 1
DCFCOwls Posted September 6 Posted September 6 Ah yes, the mouth watering game between England vs Andorra... I'll give it a miss. As for Tuchel he's been worse than Southgate for boring football so far
scram Posted September 6 Posted September 6 Not been impressed with TT so far - he hasn't hit par. Yet at least. I liked Southgate a lot Couldn't really look to cast blame for being beaten by a superior French team in the WC quarters - but I think he underachieved against a really average Croatia and while losing to Spain was no disgrace we didn't really give ourselves a chance with the ridiculous line ups and horrible lack of balance.
DCFCOwls Posted September 6 Posted September 6 I think they're waiting for Pep? If Pep was to leave City tomorrow who thinks Tuchel gets the boor Monday morning if Pep gave the nod?
alanharper Posted September 6 Posted September 6 I was at Villa Park a couple of months ago, and saw Ozzy Osbourne expending more energy than this lot - and he couldn't stand up and was a couple of weeks away from his death. 1
scram Posted September 6 Posted September 6 Hopefully waiting for Klopp But I suspect it'll be more of a Howe or Potter type
shandypants Posted September 6 Posted September 6 (edited) The problem with the England team in general is the number of modern “crash, bang, wallop” forwards like Eze and Madueke we try to incorporate into our team - these types of players can be effective but they tend to play for themselves and tend to make their own goals out of nothing - I’d much prefer to have players like Rashford Taft can hug a touchline.
