Because otherwise we might get relegated this year Great thanks for that. we have a small squad and being selfish I dont want to lose him for games. 30-40 championship games is going to develop him a lot more than, 5 minutes against Trinidad and Tobago.

Dunkstar Posted August 29 Posted August 29 Last time he was called up by Jamaica he chose to decline and played for the England U19s instead. I could be wrong but I don't think he's ever actually joined up with the Jamaica squad. His international status is still up for grabs so this could well be an attempt by Jamaica to get them to commit to their senior team. Will be interesting to see if he accepts this one as he doesn't look to have been called up by England this time. 1
WimJunk Posted August 29 Posted August 29 I can't believe Antonio is still playing. I was a youngish man when he played for us, it's that long ago...

He turned down a call before it was announced didn't he?

From what I can gather he was called up for the Jamaican squad for the game v USA in March 2024 but then was also called up for England u19s the day after. He chose England on that occasion. Whether he was actually announced as being called into the squad then I don't know. The point is, this is the first time he's been called up without another option to prevent him going for Jamaica. I guess it depends on what his future on the England set up looks like. From a selfish club point of view, playing for England is much less taxing on the individual in terms of travel etc, so hopefully he'll continue on that path for the time being.
ThorpeHesleyOwl Posted August 29 Posted August 29 Brilliant for the lad. on a side note Jamaica never ever miss with a kit, they design some proper shirts. 1
