Wolfmanjack Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 whitham scored 2 goals so he was playing .....sissons hadnt signed(1-8-70) when this match was played(25-4-70).i'm not sure its smith either but he played the last 12 games of that season at left back so he could be playing in the same team as wilcockson Other than the fact that the picture looks nothing like Smith.
brian joicey Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 that is exactly the view i had (from lower lep) when i first started going as a wee boy !
Guest JunglisticOwl Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Is the cameraman on the pitch!! I spose they had zoom lenses even in the dark ages.
clud17 Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Did the man in the scoreboard hut have an S, a pile of H's and a T?
cactus Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Looking it up, the team is given as Grummitt, Wilcockson, Megson, Eustace, Ellis, Craig, Sinclair, Young, Warboys, Whitham, Coleman and Mobley came on as a sub. Scorers: Whitham (15,85) and Warboys (88) 1
marconi Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I reckon the player on the left is Alan Warboys
owls4effa Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 iirc i Was at QPR when wilcockson scored a screamer and we lost 8-2
torryowl Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 iirc i Was at QPR when wilcockson scored a screamer and we lost 8-2 no .....he'd long gone by then . Looking it up, the team is given as Grummitt, Wilcockson, Megson, Eustace, Ellis, Craig, Sinclair, Young, Warboys, Whitham, Coleman and Mobley came on as a sub. Scorers: Whitham (15,85) and Warboys (88) megson, eustace and mobley must have been guesting then as they wer,nt at the club then.......
јаон-ова Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 flip me! They were on the tax fiddle then aswel! Bet there's 50k in the ground by looks of crowd?
Imre Varadi Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Apparently, the player on the left is Don Megson.
OhForAnotherShez Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 the difficult guy to identify, I think is Megson. Probably guesting (left in march '70) as he did play a lot of games at the same time as Gerry.
torryowl Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 flip me! They were on the tax fiddle then aswel! Bet there's 50k in the ground by looks of crowd? i wouldnt go that high but it was a testamonial and if they can fiddle the figures it gives more to the player (young) without him having to declare everything to the taxman .
OhForAnotherShez Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 flip me! They were on the tax fiddle then aswel! Bet there's 50k in the ground by looks of crowd? Look at the space on the RHS and lower AND LHS of Kop. Not many in the South what we can see.
feather Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Can't be certain but that looks a lot like Alan Warboys on the left of the pic.
