Has our administration been the most positive ever?
31Dec1966 replied to @owlstalk's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
The euphoria at the Oxford and Norwich games was something to behold. You would have thought we'd won the FA Cup ! The admin people (who are brilliant) and , crucially, prospective buyers, are astonished at our reaction to what is usually bad news. The media have noticed our amazing support too. We need to keep the momentum going and keep spending, until new owners take over and we can, at last fulfil our potential. -
And me, 3-0 at half time I was planning how I could get to the semi final away leg (Sunderland I think). It was a fabulous atmosphere, stunned to be 4-3 down then ecstacy when Mel scored.

Amongst the many many tragic things about the last 10 years is the fact that unbelievably we go into admin just when we start to produce good young players. For the first time in decades. Brown, Fusire, Weaver, Charles and these two. The two he gave away to Man City aswell. If they all fulfil their potential there is half a team there for the future. And he virtuaaly gives Gassama away. It's a real indication of his catastrophic reign.

Even Burton Albion will bring a few, then there's Mansfield, Rotherham, Barnsley, possibly Chesterfield. And some fans at other clubs who ave never visited us. I don't know what our record ST sales are but, if priced properly for league one football it will be more !
-
If we get exciting new owners and the current momentum and feelgood factor continue, and if season tickets are priced realistically, we will sell a record amount . So, no laughing here. There will be a few decent away crowds with Barnsley, Donny, Rotherham, Mansfield, Huddersfield. WE averaged over 20,000 during 25 rubbish years this century, the skys the limit now.

Great stuff, Kris. You and your colleagues have done more for the club than the previous owner did in years. I know I shouldn't because it's over now but I can't help thinking that if he engaged with the fans and did all these things 9 years ago we might now be in the position of Brighton or Brentford. 10 wasted years. Anyway, thank you, we're finally on our way.

FIFA Transfer Restriction Lifted!
31Dec1966 replied to TZOwl's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
After years of waking up every day to some new disaster, it's just wonderful to wake up every day to some more good news. Amass stays for the season, a fan loans 1 million, FIFA restriction lifted and that's just the latest ! What a job the administrators are doing, thank you gentlemen, thank you. -
I've recruited quite a few over the years but only one has become a ST holder (since 2002). I took nephews, and friends kids for their first footy experience but none have stayed the course though some still look out for our results and tell people they are a Wednesday fan. In the 90's they wanted to come because we were good and in the top division. If I couldn't make a game then I had no trouble lending my ST, there was a queue ! Now, I have a spare ST but no one ever wants it. My point is, yes, we should make every effort to advertise our club , but, in the end, people, especially kids want to be associated with success, sadly lacking for 30 years. Hopefully that is about to change! A runaway title charge next year will work wonders for attendances (which by the way, have been outstanding for the last 30 years)

Only thing that mattered to us was getting the owner out. Now, it's getting the right new owners. However, they've been wanting to avenge BDM for nearly half a century. When they were 3-0 up at HT at the lane they thought they'd do it, in fact we should have drawn ending up 3-2. We are creating a few chances, if only we had a striker. 0-2 or better will be OK with me, they can brag all they like, it means nothing this season. -
Matchday thread: SWFC v Southampton (A)
31Dec1966 replied to ReginaldD's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
In complete contrast to the last 8 years Everything about the club is outstanding at the moment. Administrators, staff, fans communication, fan engagement, ex players, the trust, supporters, transparency, local media, and above all the team are giving everything. The rest of the football world , while being very supportive, still don't know the true depths that the owner took us too. It will take time (and money) but we're on our way back. -
We HAVE to keep it going, we have no choice if we want to keep the club alive. The momentum might stall a bit , but we have United and Derby to come, should be touching 30,000 then Boxing day. Will the shop be restocked though in time for Xmas, there's not much left in there. I think, and hope that the admin will be contacting sponsors/Businesses and selling hospitality boxes.

Just 6 months ago they were 14 minutes from the PL (again) and we had no manager, a lunatic owner, and on the verge of going out of business. The sheer relief has been enormous and their current plight has added to our (my) euphoria. . I agree we should calm down a bit but it's so hard after 15 years of heartache followed by the last 10 years which I cannot begin to describe. -
I think , reading between the lines after last night, that the 7 interested parties (maybe 3 more will register) are all serious bidders who realise that a large investment is needed. And realise that, if done properly,, the prize could easily be an established Premier League club with 40,000 gates. The initial price (to Americans ) is dirt cheap compared to USA sports like ice hockey, baseball and grid iron which are not played worldwide.
-
But also said they can go back to another (preferred ) bidder and ask them if they wish to increase their bid .

Minutes Silence, Remembrance Day.
31Dec1966 replied to huddsOWL's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
I shouted "Shut up" out of frustration at the disrespect and was looked at with astonishment. People sacrificed their lives yet now people can't even keep quiet for one or two minutes. I know there will be various excuses and explanations on here but I don't accept them. Same when an ex player dies, I never clap, it should be absolute silence, alone in a crowd with your thoughts and memories. When it used to happen, absolute silence was so moving and respectful. -
So he's talking absolute nonsense, as befits a "supporter" who switches teams.
-
The most heinous crime in the football book.....changing your support to a different team. I can't take you seriously.
-
On the kop it's the same, can't make out anything at all. I never know who's doing the draw but I just clap anyway.

Yes, We need to keep the club alive and support the administrator and the trust. -
We did and under Stuart Gray we had a decent side too. 28,000 plus is outstanding. And about the same as United v Derby. 27 v Oxford, 28 v Norwich, 30 plus next game. For a team certain to go down (again) it's fantastic!

That's 4 questions! And every one so stupid that they don't deserve an answer.
