Charles bids from Rangers and West Ham
boxing_day replied to SallyCinnamon's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Alex crook Understand Rangers and West Ham have both walked away from potential deals for #SWFC GK Pierce Charles due to owner Dejphon Chansiri's 'unreasonable' transfer demands. Charles has shown great commitment to the club in tough times and is still on a minimal salary for the Champ. -
Yeah it went wrong when the ‘transfer committee’ including Paul Senior and Glen Roeder went. The big question for me is how and why that happened? In all of DCs decisions, that for me, was the one that set off the chain of problems. They’d have probably come to roost anyway, but certainly that first window Roeder/Senior signed some quality - Bannan etc

Just to back the above “I explain! When I went to Greece, I had to do the contract in English and I remembered to call Amadeu Paixão, who’s an agent in England,” Carlos Carvalhal told Record. “After making the contract, he came to me with a cheque in hand, for 10% of my contract, paid by the Greeks. ‘I’m not your agent, mister. I just came here to help’. And I answered, ‘If they gave you the money, stay with it. That’s what it is’. And the time passed. This in life… there is always a law of return. “After Besiktas and Istanbul BB, my contract with Al Ahli had ended, and I was in negotiations with Glasgow Rangers. I even went to London to talk to them. During that time, Amadeu contacted me, told me that Sheffield Wednesday were interviewing several coaches and asked me if I’d be interested.

They worked together long before Wednesday. They worked together for the same agency. Paxiao got him the job here.

Paxiao and Carlos were close long before he came to Wednesday and still are.

Report from 2022 shows him as majority shareholder - Since December 2022, Eagle Football Group (formerly OL Groupe) has been part of the Eagle Football Holdings Bidco Limited multi-club group, controlled by American businessman Mr. John Textor. As of June 30, 2024, Eagle Football Holdings Bidco Limited holds 87.69% of Eagle Football Group's share capital. -
Starting XI v Leicester City

Sorry I really meant why do you think he’s going? I’ve seen very little on it since rumours early last week, which seem to have died. And in the mean time West Ham have signed a keeper. -

Fair point but if you look at the eagle IPO, and press releases, that is currently out there that would suggest a worth of over 2bn. Decent sources. I would be shocked if someone who has sold a tiny part of their assets for 180m is only worth 190m. -

He’s just sold his share in palace for 180m, his worth is much more. -

Haven’t they all but signed hermansen from Leicester (according to sky sports news)? I know very little about West Ham but would they really bring in two keepers? -

So praying they are itk.

https://www.uktech.news/tech-hubs/yorkshire-humber/sheffield/wandisco-rebrand-cirata-20230901 probably the best article I can find of the wandisco situation. -

No not banned, he’s just received a load of funding for a new start up as a director. The info is out there I think, i don’t know where it is legally so don’t want to pass too much comment, but i really don’t think it he could have done anything but took a moral decision to leave and allow the company to rebuild. -

Dave is a very well connected fella and the type id want around the club if a consortium came in. Spent some time with him probably 10 years ago, via friends and he’s a massive Wednesdayite/very smart fella. The stuff with wandisco/cirata is all out there and I’m not sure what he could have done about it, but I’ll let others decide on that. He’s the type that would be out there looking at building groups to look at the club and I really hope this is something tangible. -
Bizzle’s end of June update…

Jack Hunt left after Carlos -
This season is by far and away the least football I’ve watched. I would say 3/4 prem games all season, 1/2 champs league. That from the same number a week previously. I just don’t enjoy it like I did. Still watch a lot of championship but I’ve got a vested interested. Concur with a lot of the above, VAR is a massive factor personally, the spontaneity of the game just seems to have been watered down with it. It’s just more entertaining without. Then you move onto the PSR farce and governance of, coupled with the modern way of playing, incredible athletes but again less spontaneity in the overall play of teams. It’s probably old age and nostalgia but it just feels a very sanitised version of what I grew up with.

Exactly this. Pigs takeover took what, 10 months? And they had a willing seller.
-
Agree with this, look at the Wrexham squad and it’s a mix of solid league one players, who have little or no championship experience, and older players who aren’t at this level any more. They’ll need 7/8 starters in. Really hard to call the overall league strength though at this stage. No business done, lots of managerial changes to be made. The 3 coming down all have their own issues, Leicester look in turmoil from the outside (manager, ceo issues etc) but the same was said last season, and Luton who kept a lot of their and thus were on paper the most predictable to do ok had the worst season possible.
