Are we allowed to have a discussion about how woefully inept and out of his depth Ange Postecolgou is in the Premiership yet? Or is it still 'typical English arrogance and ignorance' to bring it up?
-
Not a chance Arsenal will win the title, or any other silverware for that matter. It absolutely amazes me when people tip them for the title when they've proved for the last 5 years or so that they're miles away, mentally, as a club. They'll lose when they play City and Liverpool and then it's over for them. Declan Rice is absolute class though. He ran the show yesterday. Englands best player at the moment.

Wednesday not getting mentioned is down to Neville and the producers, not Des Walker. He'd have just been guided by them. It's an absolute disgrace that they didn't allocate even 10 minutes to discuss Wednesday simply to touch on our current situation. Especially as Neville paints himself as a proper football purist who cares deeply about the pyramid and footballing heritage in England. And when you also factor in he's a Bury lad, and what happened to them. No - let's just spend an hour on tedious Brian Clough anecdotes which we've heard variations of from hundreds of other footballers over the years...

Total boycott of next cup game
1867owl replied to Owl from Todwick's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
You should feel full of utter shame. History will look terribly at the scabs who don't join in with the boycotts. Selfish, selfish people. -
I genuinely couldn't care less about the season ahead. We're going down, and we all know we're going down. My only concern is SWFC continuing to exist. I don't care what league we're in. We could spend the rest of our existence in the conference North for all I care. I just don't want my club to go out of business. That's all that matters.

Why are you going to the first home game?
1867owl replied to MF TAZ's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Going to Hillsborough while that sh*c*nt is in charge is essentially crossing the picket line. No one should be going. Each to their own though. -
How do we reverse this collapse now?
1867owl replied to @owlstalk's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
God forbid - if and when it hopefully gets really nasty and toxic for that utter piece of sh*t Chansiri next season - our fans don't have a collective meltdown about how disrespectful it is, like they did when that kid did that selfie thing. If that collective meltdown happens again - we deserve all we get, quite frankly. Abuse the c*nt. (Legally). -
Good player for us - always rated Smith.

This. Be as distruptive, toxic and nasty towards him as possible. Get every game abandoned. Pitch invasions etc. It's the only way. We're totally and utterly f*cked anyway, so this can only do good. We need to get rid of that tragic mentality that saw our fans in utter uproar over the time that kid was mildly disrespectful to Chansiri when he was getting a picture. We need to be much more toxic. -
It'll be absolutely fine, as the WC in Qatar was. How much do you ever really notice WC atmospheres on the telly anyway? It's mothing like club football.
-
We'd be doing exactly the same in their position. I mean - we have a dedicated thread taking the p*ss out of the pigs on here, when they're quite literally light years ahead of us on and off the pitch.
-
This feels far more ominous than 2011 did. 2011 you sort of knew we were gonna be alright Hopefully I'm wrong, obviously, but it just feels much worse.
-
But there won't be - I'm just stating facts. There was more anger displayed by our fans towards a young lad who said something mildly disrespectful to Chansiri, than there has been towards Chansiri himself. That was such a telling incident, and totally indicative of where we are with it all as supporters.
-
There won't be. We're too placid, and resigned to it all. There'll be a few yellow posters, and that's it. So depressing.
-
Remember when loads of our fans were up in arms cos that kid was very mildly disrespectful to him that time?
-
He can't be any worse than the last bloke - quite low pressure in that sense.
-
Is it better though? A team finishing 17th ending up in the Champions league? It's a bit shambolic. 5th isn't great either, but at least a team finishing 5th will likely add more to the competition than a team who nearly got relegated.
-
Are we on about the same Lazio that just finished 11th in the league in which the winner's best player was Scott McTominay? Not exactly a groundbreaking achievement.
-
Correct. Winning a cup changes absolutely nothing. Tottenham Hotspur finished 17TH!! With a ridiculously expensive squad of players, and basically 2 full seasons. with him as manager. People bang on about injuries, the reality is that that excuse expired long before the season finished. If the notion and sentiment is that they should have kept Postecoglou on to win more cups, and that league position doesn't mean anything in comparison - then the actual reality is that they won't have won anymore cups under him, because the chances of them getting such a kind run to the final ever again, and a final against a team as bad as Man U, is almost certainly never going to happen. They played Bodo Glimt in the semis ffs
-
Exactly. People forget Spurs' ridiculously easy run to the final, how badly they played in those games, AND who they eventually played in the final.
-
Lol. People shocked that he's been sacked... How could they possibly have kept him on, when he's proven how utterly inept he was domestically? Levy wasn't gonna keep him on for sentimental reasons, just because they limped over the line to win a cup. He's literally proved that he isn't cut out for managing in the premier league. If they'd kept him on, Spurs would very likely have been relegated next season - that's not even a reach. I doubt we'll have 3 worse relegated teams next season than we did this season. Why does winning a cup mean he should be immune from getting sacked, when he's proven that laregly, he's a really, really bad manager?

Fail of the Century. The Story of the Humble Club Sandwich.
1867owl replied to Pablo Bonvin's topic in General Football Chat
We'll all laughing at them - and rightfully so - but they'll 100% be in the mix next season to go up. Zero question. They're now one of those tedious yo-yo clubs, which gives them excellent sustainability. Their f*ck up this season was brilliant to see, but the reality is they'll be getting promoted to the Prem either next season or the season after, while we'll probably be in league 1. We're light years away from them at the moment. -
Also worth noting - the magic still exists in most other countries where football's the biggest sport. It's really only England that has suffered massively. English top flight football has (largely) become a hobby that only well off people and tourists can afford to go to regularly, and it's suffered hugely as a result. Our league being so good and so popular over the years has cost us dearly in terms of authenticity.
-
It's been a gradual thing. Two key moments: 1. The invention of the Premiership. This is the biggest thing. Turned top flight English football into a 'brand', completely different from the previous decades. 2. Chelsea being taken over by Roman Abramovich, and then every other takeover that followed. Football clubs stopped being steeped in local tradition, and run by local people. Ultimately, like everything else, money has ruined it. The more popular football's got, the more money's involved throughout, and it's just totally taken the magic out of it. Anyone who says people are just looking back with rose tinted specs, and that 'every generation says that their generation was the best one' etc etc, is talking total b*llocks. Football IS much worse now. The magic has almost completely gone. There is barely any romance left anymore, and there never will be again. You get the odd nice story still - Palace winning the FA Cup was good. But basically - it's rubbish now.

Postecoglou proving how good he is domestically, right to the death.
