Barry bannan the steel derby magician
DiCarbonio replied to Luke's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
You watched that today and and came out having a pop at Bannan? I feel sorry for him. He cares, always gives 100%, and is leagues better than his teammates. We're lucky to have him. -
I know we're in special circumstances at the moment, but his complete lack off effort really annoyed me today. We have a few players not at championship level, but at least they put a shift in!

I'll search for that later. Be interesting to see what he has to say about that period

Danny Sonner goal vs Forest
DiCarbonio replied to Kopparberg's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Great goal. Strange signing Danny Sonner was though. Pulled him out of Ipswich reserves the division below us to replace Jim Magilton, who I thought was miles better than Sonner. -
Most exciting players (mavericks)
DiCarbonio replied to WimJunk's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Carbone & Di Canio. Should have kept Atkinson in 98 and built the team around them. -
The two incidents were 2 years apart. He lost it with Wayne Collins for giving the ball away losing 2-5 to Derby. Hirst then lost it with Carbone for his reaction. Away at Southampton Wilson reportedly told him he'd start the day before, and then named him substitute on the day. He was performing well in a dire team. He refused a new contract, but was willing to stay for the 1999/00 season and see his last year out. He felt disrespected by the management back then, but in recent years has said he handled it badly. He never refused to play though.

It'd be sad to leave, but if Wednesday are going to be a Premier League side it'd need major upgrades. Leppings Lane, and North stand would probably need a rebuild, and the huge stantions removed from kop. As well as filling the corners in. We've been left so far behind since 2000.

Honour Bannan & Palmer with a statue - PETITION
DiCarbonio replied to BigMikeSWFC's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Love them both. I think naming a stand after Bannan would be a better idea personally. For his sacrifice for the club in the circumstances. That and being our best player this century. We're lucky we've had him so long. It's crazy he's stayed with the club this long with what a circus it been. -
He actually sprinted today closing their keeper down. I don't remember him doing that before today. That's the only positive I can think of. When Ingelsson played him in today he did the same thing he's done all season, a weak inside of the foot straight at their keeper like a pass back. He's so ineffective unfortunetly. We could put any of our outfield squad in his position and they'd at least do the same job.

Farewell to DumbOldOwl - A True Wednesdayite, 1939–2025
DiCarbonio replied to lehftee's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Nicely written. So sorry for your loss. -
Ok, but they were competitive before Revie arrived. They were promoted to the First Division in 1924 and finished as high as 5th in 1930. Revie was with Leeds between 1961-74. Without him they won the league in 92, finished 3rd in 2000, and were runners up in the European Cup 1975, & the EFL Cup in 96. My point being they had 40 years before Don Revie, and 50 years since, and haven't won much or played in many finals. I'm not taking away from them being a huge club though.
-
Well if you take away Don Revie they've only won one other trophy, the 1992 title. I don't think Leeds have even played in a domestic cup final without Revie? I've heard Leeds fans argue most of Wednesday's trophies came years ago, but Revie left Leeds more than 50 years ago. They didn't win anything before the 60s, and 1 title since the 70s. They've had time to catch up

I know what you mean. I'd love to see Wednesday in the Premier League, and win a trophy. The honours come so few and far between. The last time we finished top of any league was the second division in 1959. 66 years ago! Before the EFL Cup in 91 it was FA Cup in 35. We just have to enjoy it as it comes and hope for the best pal. I was thinking of doing this for Lancashire, and one for the London clubs. They've both been miles ahead of Yorkshire for decades.
