#OnThisDay 33 Years Ago - Spirit of '92
MenstonOwl replied to dunsbyowl's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Amazing night, I was 14 and on the Kop (£7 a ticket though!!) with my Dad & uncles jumping around like a load of idiots and reminiscent talk of the Fairs Cup from nearly 30 years previously. Shame about the result but the memories are forever! -

Sheffield Wednesday vs Birmingham omdt

Where did the 8 mins come from in the first place? Gutted but would have taken a point before the game. Top performance from lads who yet again are unpaid. -

Sheffield Wednesday vs QPR OMDT
MenstonOwl replied to Maddogbob's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
I’ll take this happily. QPR are poor but we’re taking advantage while we can and don’t look bad overall. Palmer was unlucky there and as long as we keep a level of discipline we may see a result here. -
How did you become a fan of Sheffield Wednesday
MenstonOwl replied to MF TAZ's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Grew up in Hillsborough on Hawthorn Rd with an Uncle on Oakland Rd who took my Dad when he was a nipper. (big age gap of 19 years between the brothers, Dad was something of a surprise shall we say for my Grandparents) Dad gets hooked and goes every weekend I come along and have to watch him go out every Saturday and I used to BEG him to take me until in 1984 he related and I saw us play at Hillsborough against Luton Town. Can't remember the score but have a memory of walking throught he old tunnel towards the Kop and seeing the green grass and 'feeling' the atmosphere for the first time and was smitten! I also have a memory possibly not in that game of Mick Lyons taking one to the face and not blinking & decided if the 2nd toughest man in the word can play for the team the toughest man in the world (my dad to me at 7) support this is it for me. I left Sheffeld and moved to Leeds 25 years ago and now live in a small village caled Menston (hence the username) I have 2 boys who both follow the owls amid a lot of good natured ******** taking from Leeds fans and I apologise to them constantly both for what I've subjected them to and not being able to go! -
@YesWeCrann, Alex or someone will write a book on his 'running' of the club one day and it will be jaw dropping!!! The sort of book that you turn each page and go "F*ck off!! No way!!" as each sh/tty thing he's done, each lie he's told, every person he's let down is laid bare for all to see and we really understand how bad it was.

It can't all be Chansiri, can it?
MenstonOwl replied to super wednesday's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
All problems stem from a lack of leadership, micro management, an over inflated ego and poor decision making along side a lack of willingness to accept help of any kind that goes agasint a predetermined idea of what he wants to happen or thinks should. Its 100% down to Chansiri -
We are a great pub quiz question as the only football team ever to have a Salvador Dali original design as the shirt sponsor

How do we support the club / show our disgust?

SWFC Supporters trust are calling for a merchandise and retail boycott. Text from the email below: Merchandise and Retail Boycott It is with a heavy heart that the Sheffield Wednesday Supporters Trust (SWST) announce and respectfully request that its members and wider fanbase engage in an immediate boycott of all official merchandise and retail sold by the club. This boycott covers everything sold at the club shop and online store such as kits, scarves, hats, and mugs. It also includes food and drink sold at kiosks on matchday. The boycott will remain in place for however long Dejphon Chansiri is owner of Sheffield Wednesday Football Club (SWFC). The boycott does not yet include matchday tickets - we still believe it is important for fans to support the team in what is likely to be an incredibly difficult season on the pitch. Why? Our call to action today is taken with one purpose - to pressure Dejphon Chansiri to sell the club. His actions are endangering the club’s future. The repeated failure to pay HMRC, the unpaid wages to playing and non-playing club staff, and the current financial paralysis threatens the existence of our club. While revenue continues to flow into the club through retail and merchandise, there is always the chance that Dejphon Chansiri’s regime believes it can continue. We must send a message; the fans will no longer fund his crisis. Concerns This is a voluntary action. We are not telling anyone how to support Sheffield Wednesday. We understand that for some buying shirts or merchandise is part of a family tradition. We’re not here to judge. We’re simply asking that those who feel able join us. The Trust believe it is important we take action as fans to safeguard Sheffield Wednesday for future generations, to ensure that parents continue to experience the joy of taking our children and grandchildren to Hillsborough, and that cherished memories are not taken away from us. That we must even consider a future without Sheffield Wednesday, and make difficult sacrifices such as a merchandise and retail boycott, is the fault of only one person, Dejphon Chansiri. If this action isn’t for you, but you believe that Dejphon Chansiri should not continue to own Sheffield Wednesday Football Club, there will be other avenues to get involved announced by the Trust in coming weeks. For example, the Trust is currently working hard to come up with options as to how best the fanbase can support non-playing staff. -
Places you’ve seen/met a player or seen a shirt
MenstonOwl replied to I.T.I's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
On a wall in a bar called Legends in Marbella. My dad moved out there last year and they’ve loads of scarves and shirts on the wall but didn’t have any English Clubs. we soon sorted that (the Liverpool shirt is my nephews and we made sure it went up 2nd ) -
STATEMENT FROM DEJPHON CHANSIRI
MenstonOwl replied to andypandy's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Its not so much putting money into the club as I understand it more a deposit of good faith for future negotiations. He can use it how he wants I guess after that which is why they didn't do it as there's no guarantee he'd pay it back. I'm sure i read on here he helped finance some player purchases or wages before he officially took over in 2015 as well. -
I AM a Röhl fan. Though the performances might not have been amazing to watch at times the outcomes speak for themselves. He kept us up after overcoming a points deficit that had all of us expecting League One football again the following season. The next season we finished 12th with a team that at one point had a lot of us optimistic that a few key signings could have seen us in the playoffs. He implemented a way of playing, we couild see a syle and a plan, and yes he was tactically naive at times, but as young manager you;re going to make mistkaers that older more expereinverd managers won't. He isn't he finished article by any means but he IS a diamond in the rough for me and its not that bloody rough anymore. My username gives away where I live now and I talk to plenty of Leeds fans all of whom would not be unhappy to have him at Elland Road. When you have something other people want it means what you have is good and worthwhile. I honestly don't get the comments sometimes after everyhing we've seen the last 2 years. As I said earlier he's by no means the finished article but with the right backing I honestly think he'll go far and I'd rather that was at Wednesday!

The silence is either due to he can't say due to an NDA or just "you're not important, you're only customers so why should I tell you anything?" My take on it is that he's THAT inept he's run it into the ground. I think he's been covered before and had a few lucky breaks with cash injections at the right time to temporarily get his head above water again, but his lack of business accumen and inability to say "I don't know but I'll hire someone who does" has finally caught up with him and he's not trapped in a bubble of his own making. I had a little hope that MM would act as a go between with any prospective buyers in an attempt to get his £10m and be the trusted man and do the 'hand shake agreement' he seems to want with genuine professional business people but thats all gone to rat poo as well for reasons I could speculate on but will never know properly. I'd love to know whats truly happening behind the scenes and if there really are any prospective buyers still in any form of negotiation but like all of us will wait on @thebizzle to post (unless I missed that as well amongst all the super threads) or the announcement comes that we've appointed the latest journeyman manager/set of players with no ambition. Its just depressing!

Top 5 improvements a new owner could bring
MenstonOwl replied to @owlstalk's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Investment in the training facilties Investment in the academy, scouting set up, better pricing structure for ST and OTD Improved catering at the ground, ideally a beer that doesn't make my head pound when I'm halfway down it its so rammed with shee-ite Longer term investment around Hillsborough (or wherever we end up) to encourage families, or anyone really to stay and make an evening of it, rather then pie, pint, game, home (thinking O2 Dome type place) to be honest just a clear plan with achievable outcomes of stabilising the club and inching us forward towards a level of respectability in the game again. I'd suffer League one if I knew we had a level of investment and planning Birmingham have for example. -
Scorched earth plan
MenstonOwl replied to TamworthWednesdayite's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
It honestly doesn't bear thinking about its so awful a prospect. The emotional rollercoaster of the last few years never mind the last few weeks will leave the club with a level of PTSD. When you make bad decision after bad decision after bad decision surely there comes a point where you ask yourself "am i right for this?" and "how do I get out?"? I 100% believe the Bizzle's earlier post that a propasal was made. I think thats got to be taken as fact. What happens after is a guessing game driven by the previous behaviour of the Owner coupled with the radio silence leaving us all filling gaps with our own guesses as to whats going whether we're ITK or not. Same as the lack of noise around the shameful lack of ability to pay wages. (My take on it is that he genuinely believes its none of our business and why should any comment be made but thats me filling the silence with a guess). For my own (and all of our) peace of mind I'd just like to know what's happening to my club so I can move past this bit and brace myself for the next explosion of nonsense that'll come our way as it has done for 10 years now. Give me one season just one where we can talk about on the field activity and not whether our manger will come back, whether players and other staff will be paid or whether our Owner will come out with more stupid banality to ruin the enjoyment of supporting one of the best football clubs in the UK
