To everyone that went on the pitch
Green Army replied to Portland owl's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
This is the head scratching thing for me. How is the fanbase not united? How bad does it have to get for them to be United? Somehow you need to ensure the football club is run by a sane Wednesday fan. You can then go back to arguing over whether the ref is corrupted or just useless! However, it must be some relief that your closest friends are below you -

Our Impending Points Deduction
Green Army replied to Essix Blue's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
I think this is a key point that may be missed. Any buyer will see the club as a league 1 club and will value it as such. Chanseri will want Championship value. -
My heart breaks for clubs in your position. (Eg. Bury and Morecambe). Owners should be called custodians as the most important thing is that the club is run well for the next generation. What is stopping the EFL saying all grounds need to be on land held by the EFL. This would prevent debt being leveraged against them and clubs being held to ransom. In 2010 things were very bleak for Argyle. The one thing that saved us was the council buying the ground before the administrator sold it to Tescos. It then sold the club the ground a few years ago. We’d be in some obscure league now playing in some park somewhere if the council hadn’t stepped up.

PLEASE READ : SWFC TRUST FIGHTING FUND

A small amount donated from a member of the green army down in Plymouth. We must never underestimate the importance of football teams to communities. I’ll try and get a link onto pasoti as well.- 145 replies

I was at Birmingham v Stoke in the 1990s thst got abandoned. Lou Macari was the hated Stoke manager. stoke got a last min penalty at 0-0. Never got to take it! (I think it was taken 90 mins later after the ground was emptied….id have to look it up)

OTHER clubs that have helped SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY
Green Army replied to Kopparberg's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Everyone at Argyle wants you to get through this. We have find memories of some great, and not so great,(Rooney!), games against you. Our Trust will do anything to help….we just don’t have a spare £50 million.- 30 replies

Sheffield Wednesday will go out of existence
Green Army replied to SallyCinnamon's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Around 2010 Argyle were hours away from going bust….without even realising it. HMRC had a court session scheduled to wind us up and no one at the club had noticed. It took a fan, with knowledge of how HMRC work, keeping an eye on court dockets and then alerting the club who thought he was joking! I hope you have similar expertise in your fanbase. We were then very lucky that a bright intelligent local businessman took over (from Risdale!) saying he knew nothing about football but knew how to run a business and how important the club was to the local economy. Feels like a life time ago now. He sold up after 3 years but now has the bug and a season ticket. I guess my point is to hang in there. There will be better days. -
Admin....What needs to happen.
Green Army replied to Shezmeister's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
As an Argyle fan you’ve my deepest sympathies. There’s always a debate on Pasoti how we are run to break even, and make money, yet this means we can’t compete financially in the Championship. Sometimes our chairman gets stick but your situation reminds us how fortunate we are to be run properly. Who owns the ground? Would the land be worth anything to Chansiri? Can the council claim it back? What happens to people who have bought tickets for your closed stand? -
Talksport - Catastrophe at Wednesday
Green Army replied to myHero's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
I can see how heartbreaking this is for you as an Argyle fan and I’m not sure I know what the solution is. We are blessed with a fabulous owner who limits the club to spending what we bring in. The result? We are a competitive league one team. We are unable to keep hold of our best players or managers and, essentially, cannot compete in the championship. Players, such as Cooper who went to your neighbours, are tripling their wages. Azaz who went to Boro (we could afford the transfer fee from Villa but not the £30000 a week wages…..that’s double our top earner). We cannot compete. Meanwhile we watch as teams like Preston and Bristol City lose a million £ a month, Derby lose millions and Hull descend into farce whilst we were relegated with a balanced budget. There doesn’t seem to be much reward for running a club on a sound financial footing. So what is the answer? Annual checks I first and the EFL having the guts to take away the rights to play in the EFL if the club isn’t compliant. How you check and monitor this I do not know. I hope it gets sorted for you guys soon as just running your club with a balanced budget will slowly but surely provide money to get the ground modernised and cream up the leagues. Your club should be competing with Villa and Forest for a top 6 spot not slumming it in the middle tier of the Championship.- 32 replies

Exactly. And Dewsnip (DoF from when we were in league 2) has a huge say in how we set up and play. From the chairman down the club knows we have to set up to attack. If we are beaten by better teams then so be it. It’s why Foster was sacked after 3 months. He promised to attack and then played 5-4-1 at home and sat back in our own half.

They’ve made themselves look incredibly amateur. Everything was sorted. Personal terms agreed and then they said “em, we have cash flow problems, can we pay in June 2025”. “No. fizz off”. Was the reply.

Our issue is your price (and the kick off time). £36 is a lot for us Janners when the average pay down here is £8 per hour and a free pasty for lunch. We may sell 2000 but it’s bonkers to pay that when it’s on the tv! In other news, your nearest neighbours agreed a fee to buy Cooper , agreed personal terms and then told us they didn’t have the money and could they pay us next year! The beauty of having no debt was to remind them that “No” is a complete sentence. Quite a few Premiership clubs are sniffing around but only SU were prepared to guarantee him the number 1 jersey. We’ve also turned down bids from Rangers for Whittaker but will sell at the right price. We’ve added some players from Europe including a winger who will use as a stepping stone (Cissoko). He is phenomenal and way too good for our level. We’ve finally signed a thug of a centre forward as well. Finishing 4th bottom would be a great achievement. Rooney has integrated into the club well and sets us up to attack like Schumacher did. We will lose some games but they’ll be high scoring! What’s a realistic target for you guys this season?

Danny Röhl interview concerning words on future
Green Army replied to SheffWed's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
He should be manager of the year for the job he has done with that squad from that starting position. Even if you had gone down you should have kept him. If your chairman can’t back him with a decent budget now (and not two days for the window shuts) then he must be a raving lunatic. You may well have the best manager in the Championship at your club. Surely your chairman can see that? -

New Goalie for next season
Green Army replied to Ante's Bubbly's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Don’t know enough about Paterson But watch the highlights of our win against Leicester. Cooper made 3 or 4 breathtaking saves and made them look ordinary. He’s worth so many points to us. Im fairly sure he has never let in a goal from outside the box in open play in something like 100 games. (There was one free kick that went I ) -
New Goalie for next season
Green Army replied to Ante's Bubbly's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
The board won’t accept anything less than £10 million apparently. He’s that highly thought of. It seems Everton might be his next destination. Sporting Lisbon are rumoured to have offered £20 million for Whittaker. As we have no debt how we reinvest the money….with no manager at the moment is fascinating. The club vision is to develop and sell players on and replace with better overall quality across the team. -

He’s not better than Cooper who is now fully fit again. -
It was Cundle, ex Argyle, who blocked his own player’s shot. The Stoke forum have commented how he was trying to protect himself from a vicious shot and standing between the opposition goalposts when a Stoke player shoots is normally the safest place on the pitch!

Leeds, Leicester and Southampton spent more on agent fees than our annual wage bill. If one of them fails to go up then we could have the next Derby County in our hands.
-
Ah that reminds me of the Ciderman - Dave Smith in the 80s. Very successfully and universally loved manager who got Argyle promoted to Division 2. We played away at Reading and won 1-0 with a goal just after half time. Somehow Smith missed it and thought the game had ended 0-0 until corrected by a reporter after the game! He also used to address the crowd before the game to explain his team selection! Good times.

Someone at Home Park in the 1990s got a remote controlled car in the pitch. The highlight of the game was watching a number of stewards spending a good 5 minutes trying to catch it! Sadly that wasn’t just the highlight of the match but the highlight of the season…..

Plymouth vs Leicester

At the end a bloke behind me at the said ”That’s Leicester’s FGR moment”. . Best of luck today. I’m convinced Blackburn are doomed and you’re the team on an upward trajectory. -
Do an Ipswich! You mean come second? I think you guys will stay up though.
