  1. the memory of Harris and De Cruz has actually made me feel a bit sick, Harris in particular was so poor
  2. T1 consistently an embarrassment to this club
  3. Surprised at some assessments on here, I thought he was totally anonymous today. In the first five minutes or so of the second half a glorious Windass cross went begging. Any striker worth their salt needs to be getting on the end of that
  4. Solution is pretty simple: both teams are allowed to say if they want a replay before the game, with both needing to opt “no” for no replay to occur (and the tie to be settled on the day, on pens, or whatever). Similarly placed teams, dealing with the diminished status of the cup, and fixture pileup and what have you, will almost always both vote no. Fine. You’re only really incentivised to vote for a replay if you’re a small team going up against the big boys, which is exactly who replays benefit the most. maybe you only get one replay to stop eg Tamworth sitting 11 men in the box and farming revenue off 23 replays, but in general the system is sound
  5. Odd reading that forum. A couple of pretty normal commenters and many still bitter. Put yourself in their shoes, they came pretty close given the disparity in resources/size of club. Could have taken their chances but in the end the superior outfit showed their class. Not unlike tonight's champion's league final Football fandom such a zero sum game. The amount of mental I went when that Windass header went in ... if I were a Barnsley fan I'd still be sick to my stomach a year on
  6. Excellent. As close to a ‘cult hero’ type player as we have these days
  7. I didn't make it to the semifinal but did get down for the final, so without the comparison it did feel really special for me. That said the atmosphere yesterday was a little flat because it was a flat and tense game - no surprise it felt a little more reserved after waves of attack against all the odds for the semifinal game. End of the day it's hard to knock the experience of 45 thousand Wednesdayites celebrating a last minute winner at Wembley
  8. Was ready to jump on here and defend barnsley for loud support and a really tight game -even if a lot of refereeing decisions they’re moaning about were fine for me but a bunch of em are giving it the big one on the train now so fudge em. Woe to the vanquished - neutrals will only remember Wednesday from this season
  9. he was the difference last night. shame about the injuries, we'd have gone up as champions if he started every week
  10. Someone will snap up Luke Williams of Notts County fame, who's got them playing very attractive football, and an even more gut-wrenchingly insufficient points total in the national league. Salient points about disastrous structure of this club aside, I think it should be us. One thing that I find attractive about that sort of manager - McKenna, Schumacher, even Heckingbottom to a degree are all examples of this - is they've done the hard years of youth coaching, assistant coaching, etc, which I think is too often missed out by first-team coaches these days.
  11. think his mum passed on a few weeks ago pal. said he didn't really feel up to making the video reviews. shame because we're missing that level-headed analysis now that everything's gone belly up
  12. if Ipswich win theirs that's 9 on the spin for them. NINE! there really is one auto spot left to play for
  13. horrible watch in a horrible little ground with horrible snide commentators. robbie savage poo-eating grin in the stands as well, it's like this whole spectacle was designed to enrage me
  14. of a Barnsley player taking shots from range McAnuff noted: "he gets them right more often than not". no wonder they're on such a good run
  15. imo there is a social media aspect to this among the younguns, who want to generate "limbs"-adjacent content for their youtube channels, their instagram stories, and so on. A couple of the more cretinous teenagers probably also want to show off how 'ard they are so they can post it online. In particular they're incentivised to create illusory 10-second snapshots of the "hooligan" experience, rather than the experience itself, which is what people are getting at with the pointers brigade and how it weren't like in my day back in 78, etc. The result is a kind of plastic fandom that manifests at non-league more than anywhere else, I guess because they know they're less likely to get their heads seriously kicked in in the more family-friendly environment you find down there (and because it's affordable to teenagers). Take my local York City for example, who operate out of a pretty drab and soulless stadium and are generally people's second team. A lot of middle class kids in the stands there filming each other going mental for a goal and using pyro and so on I think are primarily there so they can upload a 13 minute video entitled "LIMBS as Minsterman thrash Yeovil" - you can even imagine the gawking face in the thumbnail. I guess it's nice that the youth are interested in non league, but it can lead to some pretty antisocial behaviour. This is probably a distinct phenomenon to verminous bagheads throwing elfbars at teenagers in T1, but an underappreciated aspect of the "new hooliganism" the vid in op is getting at. It also explains why it feels so 'fake' compared to the old days
  16. to be fair, the boy was robbed of a perfectly good assist
  17. boy is unbelievable in the air and addressed our main weakness of defending crosses. None of those Portsmouth goals go in if he’s in the side. Gutted
  18. that feels about right for plymouth, they seem to be playing out of their absolute skin
  19. given the scenario over summer, the way this has ended up working out is completely bizarre. he surely can’t be paid much more at ipswich compared to us?
  20. the good: I think byers is maybe our best player. Great cross. Smith as well just because I love a long range header. Some stockdale heroics as well. the bad: thought Windass was really disappointing tonight. In general he seems to be a bit of an ego - see the ‘not celebrating in league 1’ thing - he’d have some to celebrate if he didn’t miss loads of sitters the ugly: not really fair to ask brown to play at centre back, was only going to end in tears. Special mention to the lights show for really solidifying what a tinpot outfit this is
  21. the worst review I can think of is that he looked like me playing 5 a side tonight
  22. got a bit of a soft spot for the gas. barton, however, can do one. hope we stuff this lot
  23. is nothing sacred
