Danny Röhl on the Southampton rumours
TheGreatNebber replied to @owlstalk's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Goes to Southampton in the summer. Gets them promoted next season. Bottom 3 in the Premier League in October 2026, gets sacked. I can see why he'd want to get away from Chansiri and a promotion on the CV is always nice (albeit with a parachute money asterisk) but I can't see how him going to Southampton is a good career move. -
The Reality of a Championship (Lower) Mid Table Season
TheGreatNebber replied to Nero's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Good result last night and up to 12th for the time being but for me this still stands; Hull are awful but we missed chances and had Beadle to thank for a couple of worldy saves. We don't score enough, we give away silly goals and we're a few injuries / recalls (Bannan / Charles / Bernard) away from having a real problem. Every point towards survival is key and we could still get dragged back into it. -

Not personally convinced we're not in a relegation battle. -
U-21's vs Sheffield United (a)
TheGreatNebber replied to malek's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Bit late to the party on this one but I went to this on Monday and have a few observations. Joey Phuthi needs to work on his final ball and he could be a very good player. There seemed a much larger crowd in than the last couple of U21/3 derby games I've been to there, maybe because There was an impeccably observed minutes silence for George Baldock before kick off. They used to let you pay on the door but now you need to go to the ticket office and specify home or away supporter. Despite this there didn't seem to be much segregation inside the ground. Whereas I don't hold that all lades fans are thick, there were a few the other night that tested that opinion. -
Succession Planning
TheGreatNebber replied to areNOTwhatTHEYseem's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
While I'm in agreement with the OP I do think they have a bit of an advantage over us in terms of location. They have a very successful model of scouting overseas talent, polishing them up and then selling them on at a profit but for me being able to say that they are 'London by the sea' and that the player can live in London is an advantage over trying to sell Sheffield to someone as a new home. An advantage London clubs have more generally except for when it comes to the big North West teams. . -

For all those moaning about the transfer window
TheGreatNebber replied to sexpistol's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Ubgo is of course a 'forward' player and by default will have to play as our main striker in some games this season in rotation with Smith, Cadz and Fletcher but I don't think he's an out and out striker and I'd be (pleasantly) surprised if he gets to double figures. -
For all those moaning about the transfer window
TheGreatNebber replied to sexpistol's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
I think that individually all four players we've brought in are decent and will do a good job and should improve the matchday 16 but.... None of them are strikers and we need someone who can score 10+ goals to have any chance of staying up. We needed players in early. The latest two won't be up to speed until mid to late February and games are running out. All four are on loan so contribute zero to any long term strategy or plan. Huge rebuilding job (again!) in the summer. We've lost a player who would at least have played with some pride in Byers but not managed to offload deadwood Hendrick or players clearly not in Danny's plans like Gregory and James. -

Isn't Beadle also included as an under 21 player? I thought he was about 19. -
he'll be 28 by the summer and with his injury record would probably want a three year deal somewhere. I guess only time will tell though.
-
Out of contract in the summer. He could of course sign an extension but at his age and with his injury record he might be looking for a longer deal than we'd be willing to commit to. He might also excel at Blackpool and put himself in the shop window.
-
We've now lost Byers, Bakinson and Buckley from the midfield this window. You can argue about their relative quality but that's 3 out and so far, zero in.
-
He'll be out of contract in the summer. Could sign an extension but no guarantee.
-
odds on we're in League 1 again next season and we'll be saying we need a Byers type player. All this 'in Röhl we trust' stuff people keep saying is fine but if we go down, will he still be here?
-
A manager doesn't just throw players in because they are new or because they are back from injury unless he absolutely needs to or has no idea about his team. He integrates them slowly to give the team the best chance of winning while getting them up to speed. No excuse whatsoever for Gassema coming on ahead of Windass against Preston, no reason to play Delgado as a LWB against Cardiff or Gregory in midfield. As for last night's league cup game, you mean fringe players like Bannan and Windass who each played the full 90 minutes when any sensible manager might have rested them for the crucial game against Leeds on Saturday.

When do we stop giving Cisco time?
TheGreatNebber replied to adelphi1867's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
14 games. This is what Darren Moore got in the Championship when he came in and he got 3 wins, 4 draws and 7 defeats. 13 points should be the minimum of he should go. remember also that Moore didn't sign any of his own players, had a squad who kept not getting paid and where half of them were looking to move on at the end of the season and he got seriously ill with Covid. Xisco may have come in late and not had much of a preseason but he's had it easy compared to Moore. -
Leeds United offer reciprocal ticket pricing!
TheGreatNebber replied to @owlstalk's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Assuming that the Leeds game at Hillsborough is going to be a category A game then an adult ticket for the Kop and thus the price of an away ticket will be £45. This will mean that a ticket for the South Stand will be £59. I doubt many one will buy one at that price but that negative PR will be floating around the internet a we're sat near the bottom of the table. I hate Leeds and I hate they get parachute payments and that they are still greedy sods but I can't justify our POTD prices at all. They are obscene and are only going to price out an entire generation of fans. -
The issue with some of them is how Xisco has used them or has chopped and changed. Man management wise he seems a million miles off Moore. Gassema was off the bench against Preston and then dropped to the U21 when it was obvious he wasn't ready. Velantin was a starter in the cup against Stockport and then disappeared out of the squad. B Diaby has been part of an ever changing defensive line up, and even Delgado has been moved around as the formation has shifted. With Fletcher I'm not convinced he's going to do anything and Musaba looked good against Southampton and then has done nothing since. The game against Cardiff on Saturday was crying out for him last 15 minutes after we'd scored as they had started to panic at the back but he didn't get on. I'm trying not to judge the manager too early but so far he seems like he's working towards a payoff for him, his brother and his mates and the rest of the year with his feet up.

Leeds away ticket prices
TheGreatNebber replied to owls about that's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
The trouble with a home boycott is that many fans (me included) will already have bought their tickets. Harder to boycott when you've already paid. Also, I very much doubt that the cheapest tickets to go to the game will ever by £47. Home fans have the option to sit on the kop and pay a bit less. I'm not defending our prices but I don't think the comparison works. We've sold out in any case so it's all moot. -

Leeds away ticket prices
TheGreatNebber replied to owls about that's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Everyone should boycott the game. This is bigger than a nice day out and adding to your priority points; send a message that even Wednesday fans have an upper limit to being ripped off. -
Not a huge fan of Smith personally but you can't really argue with his stats from the last two seasons so anyone wanting him needs to pay the going rate. Realistically If he stays he could chip in 10 goals (maybe half of them penalties) so we'd need enough money for him so we can replace that with someone who can give us a bit more. There's also no rush to sell before the transfer window shuts with Fletcher probably quite rusty and Gregory getting on a bit so probably not going to be playing many full 90 minutes.

Stockport Home tickets now on sale
TheGreatNebber replied to Grants Left Boot's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Tickets & Travel
I've bought a ticket and I will be attending. I'm a bit surprised at the price but it's still a lot cheaper than the league games are going to be so perhaps people who feel priced out of them will attend. I do object to the new £1 fee per ticket however, I'm literally doing all the admin myself when I book online. Not much I can do about it though. -
How many new players do we need to sign?
TheGreatNebber replied to @owlstalk's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Shipston yes, a real prospect and hopefully one who gets a fair chance to develop his game here.
