I think the Benny Hill tune is probably one of the worst pre kick off anthems

The Boro game in April. My daughter (a student) bought us tickets on the kop for my Birthday. She knew nothing of the Chansiri campaign and protests. Obviously we really enjoyed it, spending the day together. And she fell in love with Pierce Charles. She now understands the Chansiri out stuff and keeps me up to date with Pierce Charles' news because she follows him on face tok or something. I've been going since 1971. Not been to every home game in a season since 1984 when I moved out of Sheffield. Mostly been doing away games in last three years, but won't be going to Hillsborough again until Chansiri has gone. I find it all very frustrating, demoralising and its got me down a bit. God knows how you lot who go regularly are coping. Its horrible.

That's wonderful stuff, thanks!

It would be lovely to focus on this sort of stuff but until Chansiri goes, there should really only be one target and subject of focus, and it's not the players or staff. Personally I think we'd be lucky to have a 5ft 2 inch 16 year old in goal the state of our club. But we have an international keeper. He could throw one in today and I'll still cheer him on. He is not worth worrying about at the moment. Look at the club, we have a thousand problems to resolve urgently before we get to Pierce Charles.

I was on an ICO coach. I remember being very relieved it was parked so close to the exit after the game. Some real tension in the air that day. Loved Varadi, favourite goal has to be Forest at home first game back in Div 1, August 1984. If you were there, you know.

I used to think there was a direct correlation between awful kit and team performance. Even allowing for subjective taste and opinion, people tend to agree on what is a bad or good short before team performances come into it. I do remember the recent enthusiasm for the Macron 2022/23 kits when launched and the prospect of getting promoted in such good kits. But this is one of the best ever Wednesday kits and we got relegated in it under Atkinson in 1989/90. . . We also had the green and white hooped away shirt that season so that may have swung the sartorial influence balance.....

Wonderful goal, later eclipsed for goal of the season by Windass v Derby. I will always think his best goal for us though was the penalty for 1-0 v Peterborough. So much pressure on that kick that set up the miracle. If he'd missed, it was game over even so early in the match. And then he repeated it in the shoot out. He played a blinder against his home town Geordies in the cup for us and all. Best wishes Michael, thanks for the memories.

I'd add Andy McCulloch to that list

Hopefully new kit not far away!

All our success has come wearing umbro kits. 1920s, 1960s, 1980s and 90s. I'm not sure what folk don't understand? Get umbro back in.... -

All three are good designs to be fair, nice and simple. -

Answer honestly - why does Röhl want to stay
Since 1971 replied to MF TAZ's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
I really don't understand all this "tail between his legs", weasel and back-fired stuff. Do any of us really have any idea what it has been like working for Chansiri? I am convinced there's all sorts of terrible finance and HR stuff to come out yet about Chansiri's reign. The manager role is very different to the players and quite different to the other staff. None of us know what Röhl has had to put up with and tolerate. Would anyone really be at all surprised if we subsequently find out Chansiri was up to some really dark stuff that affected Röhl? Tried to wreck his career? If you don't want to support Röhl then that's fine by me. I will. But Röhl is in no way the problem or issue at our club. Only one man is the cause of all this, his actions have impacted on all the staff. And I suspect Damny Röhl has some very good and robust reasons for his actions that one day will come out. I think he deserves the benefit of that doubt. -
I can understand people being frustrated and a little angry that DR hasn't shown the commitment some may expect. Makes our club look weak, he's "walked out on us" etc. I do understand that. But I see it this way: 1. Everyone knows Chansiri is the problem and the cause of our current, scandalous predicament. The most important thing above everything else at the moment is to get Chansiri out of our club. If you don't agree with that statement, don't bother reading any further. 2. We are about to have our second relegation from the Championship in five years, both 100% the fault and result of Chansiri and his abysmal attempts to get any basics of running a football club right. 3. We could have Guardiola, Klopp or Slot as a manager and we would fail on the pitch so long as Chansiri is controlling the club. 4. Danny Röhl has worked in truly horrendous conditions while at Hillsborough, comparative to other Championship managers. He has massively overachieved. If it wasn't for him, all this would be happening in league 1 with all the associated even worse devastation on our club. 5. If Danny Röhl comes back, smiling, committed as though he has a boss who knows how to run a football club, it will make no difference. As long as Chansiri is here, we are doomed. Honestly. There is no more papering over the cracks, getting a few good results to take the focus away from the incompetent owner. We are way past that stage now. 6. Danny Röhl staying away is adding to the mess Chansiri is in and I think that helps us. It helps us get rid of Chansiri. And for heavens sake, that is all that matters at the moment. Nothing else matters. The ground, the North stand, the training centre, a manager, new signings, the shop, a kit, preseason friendlies. Yes, it's all making me wake up screaming at night but none of it matters until Chansiri has gone.

Weasil? Weasel. If it wasn't for Danny this would all be happening in league one or worse. How can anyone forget that? He's the best manager we've had in over 30 years and in my view in the top four over the last 60 years. Just what we need now, folk focusing on Danny rather than the real problem. I doubt it, but he may even be here if we are able to start the season. He has worked brilliantly well over the last 20 months in truly unacceptable circumstances. He owes us nothing.

Don’t remember this kit being full orange
Since 1971 replied to Sefton owl's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Yes the default kit was white shorts and black and white hooped socks. We wore those orange shorts with the orange shirts away at Carlisle (FA cup Jan 1997) but with the white and black socks. -

I'm guessing Sept 1990 v the Barcoders. 2-2 with a late Wednesday equaliser I think. Strange how you remember odd stuff......the match programme had adverts for Meadowhall shopping centre opening! -
You can only choose one player
Since 1971 replied to @owlstalk's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
At his peak David Hirst was not only the best centre forward in the country, he was in the top three in Europe. He was with us for over 10 years, seeing him develop and improve into the complete no9 was inspiring. Waddle and DiCanio were truly wonderful players and a privilege to watch, worth the admission alone. But they were always "passing through". Chris was approaching the end of his career when he joined us. Paulo was always a lit match in a box of fireworks, something was going to go off probably sooner rather than later. Hirsty gave me hope of building a better Wednesday, and he delivered up until crippled by Bould. -
Yes, it had started to go stale for the same reason. Bert McGee and the board would not back Wilkinson with salaries and signing on fees for players. This had been building for a few years before he left. Wilkinson had to shop in the market for second and third rate players and he simply couldn't maintain the earlier success. When he could pick and choose quality players at Leeds to suit a system, including the cultured passing style, he had huge success. That included half a dozen former Wednesday players. Wilkinson did not want to leave Wednesday and the board relied on this. A quality, ambitious, capable young manager over achieves with lower quality players and is not backed to go to the next level. Sound familiar?

I'm 60. SWFC in the prem? Already done that and to be honest not that bothered about going back just to get one season of being humped by whichever club is owned by a middle eastern state or consortium of arms dealers. SWFC in Europe? Already done that. In the late 1970s it was one of three ambitions in my life. It seemed possible to dream of that then. Very, very unlikely now. SWFC Winning the prem? No. I think there are about five clubs that have not won a league in the last 65 years. Guess who's one of those clubs? I've given up on this one. SWFC Winning the FA Cup? No. Thanks Chris Woods, you melon. SWFC in league 2? More likely than any of the above but I'll say no. Mainly due to the money in the Championship compared to leagues below will hopefully give us some insulation against this happening. Now the important questions are: Will you go to watch Wednesday and create some fantastic memories? Will you have quality time with family and friends? Will you experience and react to the highs and lows with the same dignity, integrity and reflection on life? Will you never, ever, ever give up on Wednesday (even if we lose 4-0 to Peterborough in the first leg of a play off semi final) as long as you live? It's the journey that matters, not winning stuff.

What could possibly go wrong?

Burnley. Every time, thanks. If I wanted to go to Miami to watch sport I'd get interested in baseball, American football, basketball, pool, tennis or ice hockey, something like that.

What about Barry Bannan as our next manager?
Since 1971 replied to Daniele Giovanni's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
It rarely works, favourite and best player made manager. Chris Turner, Gary Megson. It's the reason Nigel Pearson has always given for not taking the Wednesday job. It was enjoyable in the 1980s though watching Leeds continue to fail under a succession of managers from Revie's team.
