  1. We signed Wim Jonk after he had an excellent 98 world cup, he was a key player in the Netherlands side that reached the semi final.
  2. Only if we eventually turn a profit. Not many football clubs make profits.
  3. He'd really stretched to sign Ugbo in the summer.
  4. I hate the multi-club idea where every transfer window you swap players between your clubs, so that one fighting for promotion or against relegation gets a boost while one in mid-table is left to coast along.
  5. I hope he's not supporting the FDP, they're now out of the coalition in the Bundestag, down from their usual 10% to around 4% in the polls. But if Danny was a politician I think he'd soon get to the top. Giving an interview that convinces us he's staying and saint's fans he's joining them was genius. Hope he stays!
  6. He was so important for us last season.
  7. If we'd signed last year's Ugbo rather than this year's, we'd have four more home wins.
  8. Play-offs chance now is the same as the avoiding relegation chance when Danny was appointed last year. Believe! (But don't get too disappointed if it doesn't happen.)
  9. My theory is that the Bristol manager was really smart. We bossed the first half, and their only occasional threat came from Scott Twine, through the centre. I have no idea why Danny took Shea off, but I think he deployed Palmer to stop the threat from Twine. Manning responded impressively by switching play to the wings, and we ended up over-staffed in defensive midfield and unders-staffed everywhere else on the pitch. I guess we didn't have the flexibility and options to change again.
  10. This sounds like the AI would still have Xisco in charge, and certainly wouldn't have appointed Danny.
  11. We're in the eight to ten who could finish in the playoffs, but we're not in the four who are likely to go up, even with investment. Solid foundations and developing our own players is more important than throwing money at a promotion push this season. I'm disappointed if that's not Danny's view
  12. I want us to go up. We have an embarrassing season in the Premier League, but get money to improve the team, we yo-yo between the Premier League and the Championship for a few seasons, and finally we establish ourselves like Forest are doing.
  13. The job of the new Southampton manager won't be to take them up, it will be to build a yo-yo Premiership/Championship team.
  14. The big money signing so far under Danny is Ugbo.
  15. At the start of the season I thought a mid-table season would be fine, and good progression. But the frustration is that games are a bit boring to watch and the atmosphere's not great - maybe that's normal with a mid-table season - but also that the youngsters and Ugbo don't seem to be progressing. We rely too much on the older players, and the way to progress is to develop younger ones - we've tried but it doesn't seem to be working yet.
  16. Hindsight is wonderful. How many would have preferred a first-time manager to one with a promotion from the Championship? And how many didn't want Jordan Rhodes?
  17. John Ritchie on the scoresheet.
  18. If you were offered the club by Chansiri for around £30m and you had the money, would you take it? (Given that the average loss made by Championship clubs is around £20m per year -https://swissramble.substack.com/p/efl-championship-finances-10-years )
  19. They looked threatening in the first half with short-range balls dinked through (like their goal) and good positions on the wings, but their threat disappeared second half - I don;t know why.
  20. West Ham didn't build a new stadium, they were offered one which was spare after the Olympics.
  21. The 7-0 game in 1967 was one of the first I saw. Weirdly I don't have any memory of the goals, but I remember Ron Springett twisting in mid-air to claw the ball out from under the bar. 2-1 Wednesday today.
  22. There are five teams in League One who've been in the Premier League more recently than us: Birmingham, Charlton, Blackpool, Wigan and Reading.
  23. I really don't think this is right. Chansiri doesn't want to bleed fans, but he wants money into SWFC plc and he's short of options. Brentford and Brighton had grounds they could sell for big money and then build a corporate/hospitality friendly new ground, and they could bleed their fans a bit cos they're in rich areas. Chansiri never had those options, and neither would a new owner. Yes he's made some mistakes, but now we are heading the right way.
  24. Not sure Danny got the formation right, Bristol looked really dangerous from triangles on the wing and/or curved balls down the side. I guess if our wide players had done better it might have worked. Kobacki looked useful. Bernard easiest ever MoM decision.
  25. Beadle: 8 Palmer: 6.5 Bernard: 9 Famewo: 7 Valery: 6.5 Johnson: 7 S. Charles: 7 Bannan: 7 Windass: 6 Musaba: 5 Ugbo: 5 Valentin: 7 Kobacki: 8 Smith: 6.5 Gassama: 6 J.Lowe:6.5
