I used to live and breathe football when I was a teenager and in my twenties. I'd play all the computer games, watch MOTD day religiously and would always be checking the latest football news. Nowadays other than Wednesday and England I barely watch any matches, including highlights, and couldn't tell you how to pronounce most of the players in the Premier League. The spark, for me, is largely gone.
I agree with a lot of what Bassett says. Possession and stats based football is incredibly dull to watch and VAR is an utter shambles. And yet here I am - still engaged enough to watch Wednesday each week, still looking forward to the World Cup next year. A lot though feels like habit over enjoyment though...
