Owls v Leeds United Matchday Thread

So just walked in after the drive back to the Midlands… disappointing obviously but as many have said Leeds unfortunately are made up of better players. i genuinely don’t think that we have a great deal to worry about this season and I think Danny will get it to click but a few things niggled me tonight. we’ve been playing out from the back and we’re set up to do so, the high press should in theory win the ball back further up the pitch and feed our pacy attacking players, so if this is the case…. why are we punting long and if that’s a switch in tactics why not start with smith so the two wide attackers can feed off? if we were worried about them overlapping on the left wing (hence playing two wing backs) why not play a naturally defensive right back (palmer) Ingelsson looks decent and I think he will find his feet but I do hope that we get hold of a defensive holding mid… we are crying out for one. The crowd were really quiet tonight and my lad even made a comment about how much louder Leeds fans were. Our team fed off the crowd last year, I know it’s not easy but we really do need to get behind them! Think this dose of realism will ground us again, quite honestly a couple of loans before the window shuts and I can see us changing perspective again. WAWAW up the owls! -

Darren Moore - Derby

Was always going to struggle against a team who had 1 player of a higher value and wage than the entirety of our squad. That a few moments of lapses in concentration let us down rather than the whole performance Sat too deep and invited the pressure. Nothing rocket science but was good to hear that he was still interested in watching us… no malice between him, the club or the owner. -

I spoke to DM at Solihull Moors match a couple of weeks ago. He is a top bloke! Not slating XM as I hope it will click for him but I wouldn’t have been upset if DM stayed. As you would expect for an out of work football manager he’s spending some spare time watching different games for 1. enjoyment as you don’t get to do it when you are working at another club 2. research… I personally think if there was anything in it and he went there they would be lucky to have him Was interesting to get his take on the Southampton match aswell -

Question I’m debating now is… if someone said at the start of the season you will finish on 96 points would we have held up DM as our saviour? -
So I’ve only watched the highlights as I couldn’t watch last night however… performance and some of the defending was shocking!! That said I was worried about the playoffs before last night and feared we didn’t have the goals in us or the solidity we had earlier in the season…. Didn’t expect a spanking like last night though. When we had our dip in form I reflected a lot on not just us but also Ipswich who were relentless. For me January was the turning point not the downturn. A risk was taken… we were flying high couldn’t see a loss coming we were grounding out results even when we didn’t play well. The risk was not looking at what other teams were doing and banking on our injury curse was in the past. Ipswich spent a fortune and targeted players that would really make a difference like Broadhead who I thought was very impressive against us. whether we thought let’s chance it as we want championship players next season and don’t want to sign dross that we won’t need if we can limp over the line, whether it was we will find a way to get there so let’s not invest… who knows?!?! Reality is we lost Windass and Byers and have not had anyone that has filled the voids… Byers getting injured for me is where this season went wrong!

Jesus wept we are having the best season I can remember in my lifetime (yes I know it’s league 1 but that’s unfortunately the standard we have dropped to) You lot need to shake yourselves, we’ve had a couple of bad results… happens to the best teams in the world. as long as we react what’s the problem! -

The great Peter Swan had his shirt from that day… we had a family friend who knew him when I was a kid. There is a picture somewhere of me wearing Pele’s shirt RIP

Said it the match day thread he is bereft of confidence by the look of it. The head in the hand and shirt over the face after the own goal speaks volumes. There are far worse defenders out there that play week in week out even up the pyramid but its almost like he's having to think to much rather than reacting or it being a natural response meaning he's always on the back foot He needs a break not just from the pressure but our fans getting on his back

To be fair there’s still a footballer in there but I agree there’s something not right since his injury. He looks bereft of confidence -

Watching a different game to me. I think we have been decent enough and Ipswich flatter to deceive. will be an interesting second half. Wouldn’t mind us being bold and chucking wilks and lighten on to stretch them second half. That said they will probably spend the rest of the second half on the deck with head injuries -
Actually couldn’t agree more, that said none of us are perfect and I reckon if more looked back I think he will realised he made a mistake taking Byers off. I agree with the sentiment of a lot of people on here that we looked ok with Pato at RWB and I think he rushed the decision to bring Iorfa on when he could have waited til half time to review the lay of the land. in reality after the sending off though I stand by that whatever Moore did it would be an uphill battle
-
Jesús the constant whinging by you lot is more draining than the football that this level. 11 men on the pitch even with the starting line up and I reckon we come out of this with a clean sheet and a win. game changed after sending off which we can debate all night whether it was? In reality there were challenges in that game that could be deemed worse and in my opinion a poor decision. it’s a long old season and everyone would be moaning if we played the regulars and they pull up injured, we need to be able to rotate the squad or what’s the point having them. before anyone says it. No I wouldn’t have picked that team but I reckon the starting 11 could have won that

I wish I had his cash to run this club
-
Why are we discussing new owners when our current one albeit having made mistakes appears to have got the club on a stable footing. We appear to be run more like a business than for longer than I can remember and he’s supporting the Manager where he can. Unless we end up in admin and writing off some debts what would be the benefit of new owners? Jesus wept drawn one, won one, some exciting talent in the team… what more do you want!
-
I get it but you have brought bakinson on who has height, surely you want an out with a little bit of pace to drive into the corners
-
Fair points Pato wasn’t really offering much, I’m not knocking him by the way so fresh legs up top might have been an idea but Byers and bakinson shored things up
-
Hoping he’s back quick we looked solid in the first half with round pegs in round holes. Like someone said it gives Korda a chance on Wednesday to show what he’s got because for all the stick he gets Palmer did a decent job covering
-
Don’t know what game you were watching, was strong in the tackle and held his position well. For his first competitive game in this team I thought he was decent
