  1. I recall going to an evening match at the ground in Cleethorpes. Can't remember the opposition, but best 0-0 match I ever saw. Must have been 1973/4.
  2. Towards the end of my career in the Civil Service I worked in HMRC and they never had the same clout that is proposed for the IFR. There is absolutely no comparison between the two organisations.
  3. My understanding is the IFR does have powers to investigate incumbent owners/ directors. I see SWFC as being a test.
  4. I haven't bothered to read most of previous posts, there's usually too much rubbish/speculation for anything to make sense. Prospective owners and directors of clubs will have to take and pass suitability tests under the IFR. Incumbent owners/directors will not automatically be tested - but the IFR will have powers test and remove incumbents should they be found unsuitable. This allows the IFR to tackle concerns about unsuitable owners/directors responsible for the financial mismanagement of clubs. In my book, Chansiri should be very worried
  5. Just been reading the Impact Assessment fact sheet, relating to the IFR, on the Dept of Culture, Media and Sport website. Under a headline " Placing fan engagement requirements on clubs and protections on club heritage" there will be a requirement for clubs to have an effective framework in place to regularly meet a representative group of fans to discuss key strategic club matters and other issues of interest to supporters, including club heritage and ticket prices. Makes complete sense to have ONE fan group to meet this requirement, SWST are the outstanding candidate, imo.
  6. Suspended animation?
  7. I have no idea how the new Football Regulator will operate but it's crystal clear decisions will have to be evidence based. As someone who has been involved in evidence gathering, it seems to me that what the SWST is doing will help provide a more comprehensive picture regarding the full nature and extent of Chansiri's mismanagement.
  8. Just read on The 72 that Owls prepared to let Wildsmith leave.
  9. Excellent post. Wish I knew the answer.
  10. Owls v Blades, early 60s, just after Cantilever stand open. Lost 1-2. Grandad a life long blade but I was hooked with the blue and white.
  11. Only match I've attended whe the whole ground was truly bouncing. Still evokes a sense of excitement!
  12. My all time favourite Owl player. As a kid I had a b&w striped shirt with no. 10 just because of him.
  13. Just for context. You've omitted Adedoyin, age 19.
  14. I wish. Reminds me of Leeds starting on -15 after being relegated to League 1 and finishing on something like 66 points in the playoffs. Would have gone up automatically without the points deduction
  15. My Terriers supporting pal agrees with you
  16. Agree with every word. The FA made a huge mistake in allowing the PL to self regulate. In the recent past, hasn't the Government raised concerns over governance issues and threatened to regulate if changes aren't implemented?
  17. This is the sort of post I like to read. Comments supported by reasoning/logic rather than *opinions* supported by bu**Dr all.
  18. Never heard of the steelworks link, although I'm familiar with pig iron. Some of my grandad's brothers were steelworkers and Owls supporters. Wonder why he chose to sell me the bacon story? Family (dis) loyalty?
  19. My grandad was a Blade, rest of family Owls. He told me that Owls supporters refused to eat bacon on Sunday morning if Owls had lost and Blades hadn't. The only link with this folk tale is the red/white of a bacon rasher and the resemblance to a Blade shirt. Grandad was born in 1887 and told me the tale in the early 1960s, never had any reason to doubt his version!
  20. I live a few miles out of Leeds and had cause to work in Manchester a few times. In my opinion Sheffield is the best out of the three.
  21. Many, many years ago my grandad told me the most useful invention ever was carbon paper. He used it extensively when writing to official bodies. Doesn't matter if the original disappears, there is always the exact copy. The same principle applies to modern means of communication/record keeping - keep at least one copy. If half a dozen fans record the same police incident it may make them think twice about their behavior.
  22. From my experience of investigation allegations of misconduct, the above extract describes an exempliatory way of conducting the investigation. Will be very interesting to see how FFs case was conducted in due course.
  23. Cheers, good to hear.
