He has a decent record when it comes to saving penalties, however this does not in my opinion make him a good goalkeeper. Neither is he the worse that I have seen in my time watching Wednesday, though I feel more are ahead of him than behind. I believe he costs the team more points than he gains and if possible I would look to replace him.

I recall back in the mid 70s, Derby County beat Real Madrid 4-1 in the first leg of, I think, a UEFA cup tie at home. Real Madrid won the 2nd leg 5-1 thus progressing to the next round 6-5 on aggregate. Football has seen many a perceived insurmountable deficit overturned and there will be many more. Could it be our turn Thursday If only we were comparable to Real Madrid then we may have the slimmest of slim chances.

The first game I saw was in the 68/69 season v West Ham. The game ended 1-1, Warboys scored for Wednesday according to the record books, though I cannot recall a thing about it whatsoever. Perversely I can remember Geoff Hurst scoring the Hammers goal. The first Owls goal I remember is from the following season scored by Steve Downes v Sunderland, think he got them both, things went downhill rapidly from then on.

April 1969 v West Ham, 1-1. Sat in the West Stand with my dad and grandad. Hurst scored for West Ham and Fantham for us. My 2nd game came on Boxing Day the following season which was a 2-0 victory over Sunderland. Think it was the debut of Steve Downes and if memory serves he scored both and I thought he was going to a world beater. I was very very wrong!

Might be age catching up with me, but the quality of the football seems much better to that which was served up in the 70s.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear, I was talking about the game in the 75/76 season V Colchester on 27th March which was very sparsely attended.

If my memory serves me right, that remains the worst game of football I have ever seen. A 1-0 victory for Wednesday courtesy of an own goal from outside of the penalty box. Awful, awful game, the loudest cheer of the day being the announcement of United getting a 5-0 thrashing at Spurs.

I can recall hearing the roar from the crowd back in the late 60s early 70s when I was a youngster whilst walking the dog on Wadsley Common.
