  1. I just think back to that home game against Norwich last season. We were absolutely dreadful that first half and then at half time Danny made 4 changes, one of them being Paterson and he was complete nuisance for the Norwich defence. His work effort is second to none, so valuable when we get deeper in the season.
  2. I think it's meant to be a bar graph representation of a roller coaster...
  3. I'd be interested to see what a graph like this would look like if it was the budget allocated to players wages in each season. Even though our transfer budget clearly declined rapidly, we were still paying extremely high wages and especially when we was in league 1. Then also, as someone has also mentioned, seeing what our ticket sales has been like throughout these years would be interesting to see as well.
  4. Beadle: 7 Iorfa: 6 Ihiekwe: 7 B. Diaby: 5 Famewo: 6 Palmer: 3 Bannan: 6 Musaba: 5 Windass: 3 Gassama: 3 Smith: 6 Pedersen: 6 Valentín: 7 Vaulks: 7 Paterson: 8 Cadamarteri: 6
  5. Tiredness and complacency are, what I think, the two biggest factors in all of this. And the one is certainly linked to the other. Since every game is a cup final, and it's felt like that since January, the mental and physical strain that would put on the players would be huge. Throw in all the off-field troubles and it's just one huge recipe for disaster.
  6. Everytime I look at how close we all actually are, that does give me optimism that we could pull it off. But that goal difference does look a killer.
  7. I love the fact that this fan base's most credible source, when it comes to transfers, is the instagram account of the chairmans son! Soon as Ugbo was announced, I went straight on Insta to see who else he was following.
  8. I will be controversial and say that some of the Sondico training tops/jumpers were really not that bad. One's like below. I was also a fan of the home and away strip in that first season they came on board. Don't think it's my favourite, but it deserves an honourable mention.
  9. In our history, Wednesday have had a total of 8 different kit manufacturers (Macron, Elev8, Sondico, Puma, Lotto, Diadora, Umbro, Bukta). We've seen huge changes over time in the footballing world with football kits, how the materials have changed and how the fit has changed. Different manufacturers have tried differen't spins on the Wednesday colours and stripes. What I want to know is who has been everyone's favourite kit manufacture and why?
  10. 3-2 down, Mark Crossley comes up for a corner in the dying minutes of the match, heads it home to make it 3-3. I remember wanting the buy the end of year season review DVD just so I could watch that moment again and again!
  11. I'm 28, had a kit given to me from birth pretty much but only really started to pay attention in 2002/03. So in my span of following Wednesday I've seen keepers like Lee Grant, David Lucas, Kieren Westwood, Chris Kirkland. Out of the keepers I've seen, Westwood would have to be top of that list. Overall though, I appreciate that in our history we have seen some fantastic keepers and the likes of Pressman or Springett must be the top 2. Shout out though to Dawson for last season, 22 appearances - 14 clean sheets. That is a fantastic achievement that deserves some credit.
  12. It just hasn't worked out for him. He was given a chance and we saw moments of potential from him but when a change was needed, whether all of us think he has done well or not, Dawson was able to secure the number 1 spot. I'm sure he will be recalled, or the loan will be terminated, at some point this month and so I wish him well. I'm now looking forward to seeing how Beadle performs and how Dawson reacts.
  13. I've certainly enjoyed reading everyone's views on this. The most common and obvious opinion we all have is Bernard has to stay! I also have to say it is interesting to read the mix opinion on Windass. Don't think anyone is questioning his ability but more the consistency. I've seen some mention why other players aren't on the list, I used transfermarkt to see which Wednesday players are out of contract and so I didn't include any loanees or players that don't have a end of contract date (Wilks, Ihiekwe, Johnson, James, B. Diaby, Musaba and Cadamarteri). I'm not entirely sure why it doesn't come up with a end of contract date, maybe because the website is unsure. Out of the loanees we have though, I don't think I'd look to bring any of them back at this time and I see them only as depth for this season.
  14. Cam Dawson (28), Dom Iorfa (28), Ciaran Brennan (23), Di Bernard (23), Liam Palmer (32), Will Vaulks (30), George Byers (27), Ty Bakinson (25), Barry Bannan (34), Josh Windass (29), Lee Gregory (35). All the players that are under Wednesdays books and their contract ending in June of this year, who are you extending? Bakinson and Gregory are rumoured to go in this transfer market anyway. Bannan and Palmer both deserve to retire with Wednesday, let them stay. Bernard is a must for extending, no need to explain myself there. Vaulks and Byers deserve another year. I'm up in the air regarding Windass and Iorfa, I think they both need the rest of this season to prove they are capable of being championship players. Finally, Dawson, I am a fan of his and I do think he should continue to be Wednesdays number 1, so I'd extend. With that said though, I'd like to see the recruitment at the goalkeeper position be slightly aggressive to make the battle for the 1 spot more intense.
  15. I agree that there will still be teams that will find ways to kill the momentum of the game but that wouldn't waste time, as time would have been stopped until ball is back in play. I'd welcome the stop clock into football, as long as it's utilized properly.
  16. Not the greatest. When we lose the ball, our transitioning looks slow. Our build up has been poor. Because of the build up, our lone striker hasn't had much to do. Tough half.
  17. Fair plays for putting the time in to post that. Reading that back, to me, it's clear and obvious that Chansiri's mis-management of the club is one of the biggest factors to this downfall. The rotation of managers and poor recruitment has led us to where we are now. In regards to Moore, I believe he has bought some stability back to the club for when we most needed it and to that he should be thanked. But if the expectation of his tenure is to get back into the championship, then as it stands, it has failed.
  18. I wouldn't say he's been a huge disappointment but you are absolutely right when you say he started well but has dropped off. In the past couple of weeks his game has looked slow and sluggish. I've said it before in another thread but I'd prefer to bring back Harlee Dean when he is released at the end of the season, then bring back Flint.
  19. Strange one, I wouldn't change the keeper for the second leg as there a bigger decisions to make in the outfield than in-goal. With that said though, it's because of Dawson that we were chasing the game but it's also because of Dawson, the score didn't end 6-0.
  20. How can you give Moore a 7 because his substitutions were spot on, when you ranked his substitutions an average of 4.5?!?!
  21. So going off those contracts, the current budget is 162k per week. If the worst does happen and we stay in league 1, I'd imagine that figure might drop to the 150k mark. No idea, just guess work. So 150k is what I'm going to work with. To start with, I'd retain the following... Windass - 12k (Vital player) Palmer - 12k (Mr Consistent all season. Would love to see him retire at the club) Paterson - 10k (Injuries/Fitness has been an issue but his adaptability is second-none) Gregory - 5k (Age is getting to him but can still do a job as a back up) Ihiekwe - 8k (Injury/fitness again but would be an important player to keep) Wilks - 8k (Give him one more season to prove he can be successful with us) Byers - 6k (Imperative to keep) Johnson - 2.5k (Would be a sensible back up option) Heneghan - 3.5k (Started off well. Then injuries hit. Bring him back for back up) Cadamarteri - 1k (We need youth) Total - 68k Bannan, Vaulks, Bakinson, Dawson, Smith and Famewo are in-contract for next season already. (This comes to a combined 50.5k) I would also promote one of our young keepers to back Dawson up, to which I'd allow another 1k for that. Now that the release/retention has been sorted, our wage budget is currently sitting at 119.5k. Moving to next season, I would like us playing more expansive/attacking football, which is why I would want us playing 4-3-3, keeping the front 3 as exactly that and not relying on wing backs. So far my starting 11 would look like the following... Dawson Subs Youth GK Palmer Ihiekwe Famewo Johnson Heneghan Bakinson Vaulks Gregory Smith Byers Bannan Cada Wilks Paterson Windass Ideally, I don't want Johnson playing LB and I wouldn't want Paterson playing LW (though he is very versatile). So my main areas of recruitment would be the full back positions, wingers and then young blood. I believe my depth for the squad, in terms of numbers for each position looks like this. GK - 2, RB - 1, CB - 3, LB - 1, CM - 4, LW - 1, ST - 5 (which includes Pato). New recruits, using the free agency market you got above. I've picked the following candidates... - Luke Leahy (LB).. Has had a cracking season at Shrewsbury, very good at dead ball scenarios, would be a cheap option. Downside is he is 30. = 3k - Sam Robinson (RB).. Only 21 years old, he's a Man City academy product that's currently at Port Vale. Though Vale haven't had the best of seasons, Sam would be a cheap option and because of age, he'd have plenty of time to learn from Palmer. = 2k - Harlee Dean (CB).. I'm all for bringing Dean back to Hillsborough, his championship experience would be more than welcome. It would be a low championship/high league 1 wage but adding depth and experience to a position group that needs it would be welcome. = 8.5k - Paul Smyth (RW).. 25 years old, he's bagged 10 goals for promotion winning Orient. I'd imagine Orient would be doing their best to keep him after the season they've had but if there's a chance of picking him up I would be. = 4k - Alistair Smith (CM).. Young player, who's had a productive year at Sutton in League 2. Only 22 years old, this move would be to add youth in our midfield. = 2.5k These additions would add an extra 20k onto our wage budget, which now sits at 139.5k. Without spending more time than I already have at looking at younger players, I would ideally spend the remaining wage budget on youth players. Whether that would be promoting from our youth set up, or recruiting from others. Personally, I'd get Darren gone if promotion hasn't been achieved, so I'd be in search of a new manager. So I've decided to give former Wednesdayite, Benito Carbone a chance. Lastly, with these new additions, my new starting line up would look something like this... Dawson Subs Youth GK Palmer Ihiekwe Dean Leahy Heneghan Bakinson Vaulks Gregory Smith Byers Bannan Robinson Paterson Wilks Smyth Windass
  22. Smith also had a solid chance to win us the game at the very last second against Lincoln earlier this month, but his header was a weak attempt and went straight into keepers arms. Arguably, the games in which Byers and Windass got injured was a season defining moment. I hate the fact that our performances since those 2 haven't graced the field have been poor.
  23. But to not avoid the question, the records achieved this year, Darren should be of course be praised for his part. Something was obviously clicking within all areas of the squad. But when we got hit with adversity, there just hasn't seemed to be any type of plan B.
