I've just listened to the full Danny prezzer and I think the picture is much clearer from his reactions and the precise words used. When Danny says (and only kind of says) that he decided to stay, he does not mean that he made an entirely free decision to choose us over Stn.
In fact he says, I am here and so I decided to stay. Well, that's a very loose interpretation of 'decided to'. But Danny handled it brilliantly. Chansiri having blocked the move, no way could he say, yes, I'm only here because DC stopped me going. That would be totally negative for us all. Sometimes, the full truth can be a very negative and destructive thing. Danny was intelligent and pragmatic in his answers which was best for the club, for him and for us as fans. DC of course will have got all mardy and childish about the contract and Danny wanting to at least talk to Stn, and I suspect that is why Stn recalled Shea.
DC's childish, petulant character and communication style will have soured the relationship way beyond what was inevitable as a result of DC (rightly) turning down the approach for Danny. So as result of DC, we have lost, in Dish's words, our 1st, 2nd and 3rd best player this season. If we get him back, Stn will no doubt want a helluva price. The only hope would be that Shea is firm that he wants to come back, and not be in the away dressing room in March, and Dish's interview might have helped mend what DC ruined in terms of it being made clear how much Shea is valued.\
Overall, tho, the prezzer made me feel much better. Danny was relaxed, he seems to have put the saga behind him, and he showed again, how intelligent, measured and considered he is. He seemed positive and focused, and not as downbeat as I think he has been recently. Of course, he won't have wanted to go out of his way to ring DC (a) because what normal, intelligent would (b) he will have been miffed at DC blocking him.
Still, I actually don't think it will necessarily be that much of a problem. I think Danny is a big enough person to now ring him and I think the transfer targets are probably being looked at by the recruitment team anyway, albeit they probably haven't known wtf they stand. I suspect there will now be some kind of conversation between Danny and DC and just hope DC says very little and just agrees to spend the probably quite modest budget Danny is asking for.
Better still, I hope DC says very little again, ever, at all about anything to do with Sheffield Wednesday, and stays as far away as possible from any dealings with any grown-ups.
