Would you swap Moore for Wilder?
saf replied to New Maple Staple's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
He'll probably get another Premier league job and will fail. His success with that lot and those players was once in a generation. He'll probably reside over an average run and get sacked with the team hovering around the relegation places -
Exactly this. Let's see what happens on Tuesday night. On a cold winter night in Yorkshire when the sky cameras and potential future employers aren't watching...

Where do you go to get food before home games?
saf replied to @owlstalk's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
No one else go here? Hardly ever a queue (which is just as well as it takes 'em longer to make up some chips than it does atdhe to turn sharply and get up to full pace) -
Points deduction still possible with charges against club still going to a hearing

I wouldn't start him at L**ds. Too big a game. One mistake and that confidence could be shattered ... I'm afraid to sa ugh by our own fans as much as the Bellend Rd crowd

End of a decade - Who got the assists?
saf replied to Emerson Thome's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Influential yes. And I had thought he's worth keeping hold of. But someone else posted on a different thread that he'd made 250 appearances this decade. So he's scoring one in 5 and an assist in 10 [roughly]. I'd argue that is nowhere near good enough for a team with top six ambitions. It's like trying to buy a lottery ticket to make enough to buy the weekly milk and bread. -
Have to disagree. Especially today. Everytime he got the ball it was a long hopeful punt towards Win-fizz-all against 2 6'7" centre halves. And he did it again and again and again when it was obvious it wouldn't work. He's not an intelligent footballer. Not convinced he can change his game, and frequently too slow to release the ball.
-
I think we have to let him go. I don't know what we do with players (three new players from jan already injured) but we can't afford big earners who aren't available every week. If we have a few star players on big whack we can't afford decent quality squad players to come in when these stars are unfit.
-
It's not. He's over 30. And came with a dubious fitness record. If base your team around an individual that good what do you do when he is inevitably unfit? He touch today was a class apart. If he had been available even jos would have won a few more games.

What's the point in building around a player who hasn't been available for 18 out of the last 24 months?

Full-Backs and The Balance of the Midfield.
saf replied to Jim's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
All very valid points. And i agree with the bottom line which is out left and right back options are major weaknesses that hamper us both in a defensive and attacking sense. However. i don't think we can afford to bring in anybody. Secondly with regard to managers. Names being mentioned are traditional experienced British managers who have done it before etc. I agree I think we need a change but don't we need a manager who can get the best out of this lot given we can't buy anyone? modern footballers need an arm round their shoulder and 'coaching' rather than a rocket. The best can do both but we aren't getting Pep or Moore or man from L****s -
was in Nonna's thirty mins before kick off. If he doesn't have one why wasn't he supporting his team mates? For all those singing his name last Saturday- if he is fit then I completely back the manager in not playing him.

In fairness it doesn't say it was his Mrs was the patient!

I would concentrate on getting better. Listening or watching to us at the moment is going to do your health no good whatsoever

To the tune of the bangles -Manic Monday It's another magic Wednesday (Per-for-mance) Wish it was every game (Whoa whoa) Up to the premier league Whoa whoa Cos we are magic Wednesday.. Repeat

Because FF, atdhe, Van Aken, João , pelupessey, bannan, Fletcher, would all all respond better to an English born and bred mamager

Yes. From 1dt August you can pick them up I think. Or they'll post them out so they arrive after first home game usually.

Fans' verdict: Season ticket sales
saf replied to fred mciver's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
All these folk quoting family time as a reason for not renewing (a ticket next to their dad)... I get most my family time at Hillsborough. One of the few times I get all three kids together in one place at the same time. Wife never comes. Some might see that as a bonus. -
If a big premium club comes sniffing we have to cash in. No player is going to want to play championship football when they could be playing in the premier league. That's just the way it is. If his head is turned we won't be getting the same performance, desire, tenacity or intensity from his game which is so important to us and how well he plays. I'm not saying he doesn't want to play for us at the moment, but his mind has to be100% into playing for us or we'd be better off getting as much as we can for him.
-
I think that win sees us safe.
-
Of course you can. No history whatsoever that club. Bought their success and have (along with Chelsea) screwed it up for the rest of us because of FFP which was brought in to stop more teams doing the same. They don't even sell out when offering free tickets. They are the blunts of Manchester.

George Hirst banned from playing for the first team
saf replied to @owlstalk's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
He looks dejected in that picture. -
This goes at half time too. Our lot seem to mess around with it pinging the ball to each other across the width of the pitch with no real obvious aim, whilst the opposition are being coached or doing some meaningful looking drill. I remember Millwall away and pudil was in net throwing himself about as a keeper with one of the outfield players trying to shoot as you might do in the park while Millwall were doing an organised excersize in their half.

This is exactly the point I'm trying to make. I think it is directly comparable. Except we've been signing the wrong sort of player. Ex premier league late 20s early 30s. Large wages. You do need some experience but I think we need more youth, with a point to prove and eyes to catch. I don't follow wolves so not sure who they've signed but by the sounds of it their recruitment this year has worked. It didn't last year. Question for us is did we ask for these players or were they recommended?

https://twitter.com/andrearadri/status/971499682206830593 L**ds owner has just had a rant on twitter hinting that Wolves have an unfair advantage. Probably referring to Mendes https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/jun/19/jorge-mendes-wolves-influence-chinese-owners-signings Now I for one am not defending how we have been run over the last three years- but all those dismissing Chansiri as naïve and having no idea about football are maybe being a little harsh? It is clearly a model of running a club that allows signings to be made in a boom or bust push for promotion. It has worked for Wolves this year. I think we will go the way of Forest, and Derby and spend a season or two languishing in lower mid table until the books balance and then go again. The sooner the influence of agents and agencies diminishes the better and more sustainable football will become.
