Did DC choose the Administrators?
owlsite replied to owlsite's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
So does anybody know who appointed the Administrator? A Company Director CAN, I believe, appoint his/her own. -
owlsite started following Your own favourite shirt number 1 - 11 , Did DC choose the Administrators? , HILLSBOROUGH OR MOVE AWAY? and 1 other

I am no fan of DC but IF he did, did he do it knowing that, amongst other experts, a dedicated Wednesday fan would be overseeing things. Just a thought.

Surely the authorities have got this wrong. As already said, all we need is a white patch or square on the back of the shirt so that numbers can be easily recognised. This method was always used in the past. In the early sixties we had a white patch with red numbers (I know) but I thought they were clear enough and didn’t mind them. -
Excellent work by Kris and the Administration. Come on all us fans, let’s do our bit now and forever to keep the Club big and strong.

And blue and white hooped socks please. -
Really good news. He’s already a very important member of our squad but could become a real ace in our pack.

A commendable effort, but the original cannot be improved upon for me, sorry.

Great stuff BigD. Thanks for taking the time and trouble to provide all that interesting information.

It seems to me that the fanbase is split on this subject. If we are bought by owners who have the means and intention to invest heavily in the Team and infrastructure of the Club, whereby money is no object, then what, if asked, would our fans want? Would we want to stay at Hillsborough or would we want to leave to create a new Stadium and begin another historic journey? The first game that I can remember going to was in 1955, I was 6 and a half years old (half years are very important when you’re young) and my Dad, with the gateman’s permission, lifted me over the turnstile at the Leppings Lane end for access to the old North Stand shed. Strangely and sadly, I cannot recall who we played that day or the result (I know, unforgivable and it really bugs me, but I don’t know the date of the match), BUT, I do remember the noise/atmosphere and the passion of the crowd in that stand. Blue blood was already coursing through my veins as all my Father’s family were avid Wednesdayites and this experience only served to cement my allegiance even more. I saw the new, exciting and unique at the time, cantilever North Stand being built and have been a Season Ticket holder in it for many years. It would be a shame therefore to have to leave this wonderful, historic Stadium, where many iconic league and Cup games (including all the FA Cup Semi Finals we used to host) have been played, BUT, apart from the tremendous amount of money that would have to be spent on renovating and upgrading, there is, in my opinion, also a massive logistical problem, due to the Ground’s situation. Its boundaries are tight and it is surrounded on two sides by dense, terraced housing and of course, the River Don. On the other sides there are the main roads, making expansion, even with a never ending source of funding, almost impossible or, highly impractical. Taking everything into account therefore, I believe that a relocation would be inevitable, but then another issue arises - where would the relocation be? I personally, would prefer it to be as near to the current ground as possible, but suitable land is hard to find and at a premium and the size of the area required might not be easy to find. For me the obvious choice would be Owlerton Stadium (how fitting that would be) but I have no idea of the practicality or availability of this. What are people’s thoughts on whether we stay or move IF our new owners ask?

Come on all Owlstalkers and fans, we have now got what we have wanted for so long and the Administrators have spelled it out - our Club needs our money fast. Buy your tickets to fill the ground for EVERY single home match as this not only increases our chances of surviving in the immediate future but also gives us the best chance of attracting and securing new owners quickly. It seems that the Owls shop is already experiencing far more sales and I would imagine that the Administration will be well impressed and they will hope that we continue to spend especially as Christmas approaches. Fill your stockings with Shirts, shorts, hats, balls and any other Owls merchandise available. Grab your half season ticket if they become available as surely a full stadium will likely impress any prospective buyer, and quite possibly, attract the kind of buyer/owner that we all crave. Ok, I’m a bit excited and stating the obvious but It’s up to us now.

That’s the kit and the team for me Redowl - thanks.

Ron was my hero. Such a safe pair of hands any high ball in the area was usually his. You don’t see a lot of that kind of aerial confidence and ability these days in my opinion. He also had a superb understanding with Peter Swan, my other hero. That 1960/61/62 team was my all time favourite especially under Harry Catterick and the kit they wore, particularly with the hooped socks, was my all time favourite. Perhaps it was because I was young and impressionable at the time but I’d love us to play in hooped socks again.

I’m still giddy about the result at Portsmouth so for a bit fun, and for our footballing fans who either play now or have played the beautiful game in the past, at any level, what was the number, 1 - 11 (before the introduction of squad numbers in 1992/93) you were most thrilled / proud to wear on your back and Why: - was it the number itself - pride in the position or role you played - or was it because it matched the number of an icon you revered - What was the number that you coveted, but knew that you would never get the chance to wear?
