Ron was my hero. Such a safe pair of hands any high ball in the area was usually his. You don’t see a lot of that kind of aerial confidence and ability these days in my opinion. He also had a superb understanding with Peter Swan, my other hero. That 1960/61/62 team was my all time favourite especially under Harry Catterick and the kit they wore, particularly with the hooped socks, was my all time favourite. Perhaps it was because I was young and impressionable at the time but I’d love us to play in hooped socks again.

I’m still giddy about the result at Portsmouth so for a bit fun, and for our footballing fans who either play now or have played the beautiful game in the past, at any level, what was the number, 1 - 11 (before the introduction of squad numbers in 1992/93) you were most thrilled / proud to wear on your back and Why: - was it the number itself - pride in the position or role you played - or was it because it matched the number of an icon you revered - What was the number that you coveted, but knew that you would never get the chance to wear?

Governmental help (the Regulator) would be great BUT what if, having taken us down to League One and got rid of all the high earners, he then puts himself in a position where he can sustain us . Will someone please tell me that this can’t happen. yellow and gold until it’s sold.

I’m not sure about whether we lent any players to Man United after the Munich Air Disaster, but we did sell them our best player at the time, Albert Quixall, for a then record fee of £45000!. To be honest, I think that Man United thought that we had ripped them off at the time if my memory serves.

I remember when Jack Charlton came to one of our games in the late 1970’s. He said that he was really impressed by the fans’ passion and massive support of our traditionally historic club despite the terrible times we were suffering at the time and was so moved by all this, that he became the Manager and basically saved us at that time. Perhaps we should all try to appeal to John Textor in a similar way, give him the love, so to speak, especially as he appears to want to acquire and help a traditional English club and rebuild in such a way that it supports communities in a very positive way. How could we go about it though?

This is exactly as I see it. If true, welcome back Danny, because with a bit of transfer money, he might just get us the player quality he needs to play his way and give us the best chance of surviving next season.

IF Textor becomes the new owner, hopefully Richards and possibly Jordan (surely there would be something in it for Simon) will be able to keep an eye out on things for us.
