I'm 43. I'd put Roly in the same age bracket as me only healthier.

When I was 14 I named my rabbit Graham after Graham Hyde. Turned out Graham was a girl and had four babies. Roland, Regi, Dejan and Darko.

What's your favourite memory.

3 September 1996. Maths exam at school. The teacher invigilating was a Wednesdayite called Mr Beer. As he walked past my desk he slipped me a little note. PLAYED 4 WON 4 POINTS 12 YEAH! -
For those of you who don't subscribe to The Athletic. Just get a free trial or whatever. Just to remember this. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/3420975/2022/07/15/best-premier-league-performances-no-19-chris-waddle-for-sheff-wed-v-west-ham/

Confess your unpopular opinions regarding SWFC

Pleat was not that bad a manager -
I think it would be a great idea if the likes of The Times, Guardian, Sky Sports, Athletic etc could be in there to bring mainstream coverage of his insanity to the world but he wouldn't let them in anyway.

They openly admitted at the start they knew nothing about football, but they employed THE RIGHT PEOPLE. Imagine what that must be like.

I can't imagine he's got many friends to be honest

Retro Wednesday...1993! Spot yourself?

I had that blinding flash moment during Euro 2004. I'd assumed that because Wayne Rooney was a professional athlete he was older than me. Nah, four years younger. -
Richey Humphreys and that unbelievably precise chip that put us top of the Prem.

I'm pretty much in the same boat here. I think I watched about three or four live Premier League games last season and that's only because the wife is a die-hard Forest fan. I have absolutely no interest in the prem as it's rapidly becoming a closed shop and ruined by VAR. Other than England at tournaments, Wednesday are the only thing that keeps me connected to football. I'm on here every eight seconds looking for updates and the fact of the matter is nothing positive is coming, nor is likely to come. If we fold that's me done with the game.

Andy Giddings - Players possibly refusing to play.
manicowl replied to SallyCinnamon's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Do you remember about ten years ago we played the kids in a friendly against Alfreton and got beat 14-0? And we are now going to play the kids against Leicester, on national TV, who have individual players who are worth more than our entire club. These kids are going to have their careers ruined before they've even started. -
Is this not something for the police to be involved with now?

Real shame. I thought he looked like a successor to Sheridan for a while. Always seemed to have space and had a great understanding with Regi. A tight three of him and Pembridge with Hyde or Collins scrapping away behind looked good for about a month.

Criminal we didn't do more with Trustfull. He looked genuine quality.

What is the worst part of this in your opinion?

I get Four Four Two magazine every now and then and every so often they do the 100 Greatest Players In The World list. Back in 93, we'd have had two players in that list: Waddle and Nilsson. Today, we barely have a dozen professional football players. -
There was a Wednesday shirt in the background of the hard camera shot on Fantasy Football IIRC

Who do you fancy as our next manager?

Someone who's only ever worked at clubs with idiotic chairmen and that can guarantee an asset-stripping relegation for DC. Rooney. -
Desperately trying to distract myself from updating the various takeover threads every 8 seconds by watching the 93/94 season review video on YouTube. I only saw this kid play live a few times but it seemed like he had it all. Strong, direct, weighed in with goals and he was f*king huge. I know his knees got mangled but he was on our books until 98 according to wiki. Memory plays tricks, was he as good as I remember or did he just have a decent cameo then drop off a cliff?

Favourite Non-Wednesday Player?
manicowl replied to goatleaf's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Funny how the world turns. In the 90s I loved Matt Le Tissier for his amazing goals and the way he looked like he was playing with his hands in his pockets but in the last ten years he seems to have achieved vertical take-off from reality. Also in the 90s I absolutely loathed Ian Wright because he always scored against us and was a total sh*thouse. Particularly that time he pulled Regi's dreads. These days he's a national treasure and that footage of him whipping his hat off when he meets his old teacher gives me a lump in my throat every time. -
You can only choose one player

This is similar to a debate me and a few of my mates have in the pub from time to time: who would you rather have in your team, Shearer or Henry? Henry needed that wonderful Arsenal forward line of Pires, Ljungberg, Bergkamp etc to let him do his thing. Shearer scores twenty goals in any team. Waddle was at his peak when he was connecting with players on the same plane: Sheridan, Wilson, Bright, Degryse. And for England Gazza and Lineker. David Hirst scores 20 goals in the top flight for any team, even if they finish bottom. I'm dismissing DiCanio out of hand because, wonderful player that he was, he was also an utter headcase. I've read his book. He really hates Peter Atherton for some reason. If Hirst stays fit, Shearer is second fiddle in the 90s -
Fifteen years this August. Joined just after we'd been relegated in 2010. I live in Hull and don't get to many games so Owlstalk is my Wednesday lifeblood really. Back in the 90s it was my copy of AVFTEB/Spitting Feathers landing on my doormat once a fortnight. The concept of this site existing back when we were actually good is something that fascinates me. Can you imagine the slagging off that Pembridge would've got?
