Red Bull Salzburg v Wednesday. Sat 20 July.
arithmetic replied to Maidstone Owl's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
We lost 4 – 0 at Huddersfield in February. Only 6 months later, and we’re losing 4 – 0 against a whole other stratosphere of team. That’s progress. -
From the EFL handbook: But this is an important point: So, McNeill will be counted as under 21 all season, even though he turns 21 in September, and doesn’t count toward the 25. But Beadle is counted in the 25, even though he only turned 20 this week, because he’s on loan. As would any other “young Premier League players on loan” people have been wish-listing. Still leaves 4 slots currently.

If you were offered 12th now, would you take it?
arithmetic replied to WimJunk's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
We had 2 points when Röhl came in. We finished the season only 9 points behind 12th. And 11th, for that matter. I’m not expecting the play-offs, but 12th would be disappointing season. His players, a proper preseason and 46 games? Top 10 has to be the target. -

I don’t think it makes any difference. Whether we spend at the beginning of June or the end of August, it all appears in the accounts the following May. That’s all they base it on – if you’re in the Championship and the average loss over the last 3 years was >£13m, you’ve broken the rules. There are higher limits for clubs relegated from the Prem in the last 3 years, but nothing for clubs promoted from League One.

Can’t rule Barnsley out, it’s in their hands. But besides Derby, they’re been on a great run against poor opposition – Accrington, Oxford, Cambridge, Vale, Cheltenham. They were well beaten by Charlton and Bolton right before that, so it would be a real achievement to repeat that form in March (Portsmouth, Plymouth, Wycombe, Ipswich and us).

Oxford United sack Karl Robinson….
arithmetic replied to Bloxwich Owl's topic in General Football Chat
Just last week he said “I still believe I’ll get this football club out of this league.” Looks like their chairman was afraid he might be right. -
Some would be fine with it, some wouldn’t. When they did it to Salzburg, some fans stayed, a substantial group left and formed a new club. Personally, I think I’d be among the latter. What is the club? Owners, managers, players, logos, even stadiums come and go. Our city, our colours and “Wednesday” are about the only thing that’s stayed consistent. Changing that to advertise fizzy pop would be too much for me.

They haven’t been awarded anything. It’s pending legal action. They can make almost any claim they want. If it was tested in court, I doubt Middlesbrough would be awarded damages anything like that, even if they won. The problem for Derby’s administrators is that they don’t have the time or money to fight it in court.

Was their physio a midget? -
Unless last year's shirt was tighter, and whether it's the players or the regime, they're fitter. Go back and look at photos from the beginning of last season, it was embarrassing. They were carrying more spare tyres than a pub team.

How to alleviate the Almen Abdi situation
arithmetic replied to @owlstalk's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
I thought we'd done that about 18 months back. Him and Matias have been jostling for the one area of the pitch we have real strength in depth: Owlstalk in-joke. -
