  1. This for me was how we tightened up at the end of last season. Turns into a 5-4-1 when under the cosh....
  2. Agreed, but I still think half a season playing week in week out at a lower level is better for a players development than 10-15 minutes every time we are 2 goals ahead and comfortable.
  3. Scored more for us than Hirst Jr already...
  4. As a student of semantics (many years ago) I'd like to offer the following critique of the above... First sentence establishes a fact '"I love to see women at the football"; and re-enforces the sincerity of this with an emotional hook, "used to go with my mum as a kid and hope to get my daughter into it". Having established that the first sentence is sincere, the second sentence then offers an exception. As this contradicts the fact established in the first sentence, there must be a strong reason. Whilst this is not openly stated, the comedic value of the statement lies in the inferences that the listener has to make, which are: "Tea Baggins" loves to see women at football, based on positive, first hand experiences with female relatives. This is a genuine, as strongly held sentiment. Therefore it would take a strong reason to go against this sentiment. "Tea Baggins" thinks that Rebecca Welch has been so bad at reffing Wednesday matches recently that this is the one scenario that would negate the original statement. I thought it was quite witty, and don't think that it is intended to be sexist.
  5. The problem is not the selling of a young player; it is not having a replacement lined up. Brighton in particular seem to buy for £10m, develop for 2 seasons, sell to Chelsea for £60m, then replace with another £10m player. The fans are more forgiving when the club sells talent because they have faith in recruitment. If we sold Cadamarteri would we really trust Chansiri & co to reinvest?
  6. Worst mail order wife ever.
  7. I know it’s early days, but IF the manager lasts long enough to become popular, we should revive the old Di Canio song for him… X…I…S…C…O….
  8. I’m sorted for tickets now thanks
  9. I’m based in Somerset so will need to meet Tuesday pm at the ground to collect. Is that ok?
  10. No worries mate. Cheers anyway.
  11. I’m looking for 2x Cheltenham tickets, but will need to collect before the game as I’m not Sheffield based. Cheers all.
  12. Please DM me if this is still available.
  13. Please DM me if this is still available.
  14. Hi Bladeshater, That would be great! Can you DM with contact details?
  15. Looking for a ticket for Exeter. Please DM me if available. Cheers!!
  16. Loved the first Big Ron era but let”s not forget: he got us relegated with Nilsson, Palmer, Sheridan, Hirst and D Atkinson all first team regulars. Some of the league results in Div 2 were pretty poor (lots of home score draws where we would not start playing until two down, or throwing away leads from comfortable positions). Only finished third that season (play-off form by modern standards). I can only image what Owlstalk version 1990-91 would have looked like after home draws/defeats to Oldham, Port Vale, Notts County, Oxford etc.
  17. I thought that but when I googled it you just end up with the go compare song. I can’t believe that we made up the tune as well as the lyrics…
  18. Does anybody know what the original tune is for this song? It’s been in my head for days.
  19. The problem with us always referencing Warhurst is that he was very much the exception to the rule. Most defenders going up front do well because they become a good target man. Lots of headers and physical presence etc etc. Warhurst was all about pace off the shoulder of the opposition centre-back, great line-breaking runs, and mad shooting angles. Also he had Waddle, Sheridan, Bright, Bart-Williams etc setting them up so without wishing to belittle his achievements he had plenty of quality around him. Pulis needs a target man.
  20. Paid £3.50 to stand on the kop and watch this beauty of a game. We never got going until we were 2-0 down a few times that season; as has been said already it cost us the title but promotion was the main prize and the entertainment was unreal.
  21. You might want Ian to check that for you.
  22. I think you just have “my friend” xxx
  23. Maybe people just have slightly different opinions to yourself. . I’m not saying King was bad, I’m saying that he was probably first on the list to be upgraded if you could improve on the 91-92 side. Move Worthington to left back and get a better left midfielder (which we tried and failed a year later with Sinton) and a more dangerous partner for Hirst (Bright for Williams). They would have been my changes so in my opinion King/Williams were the weaker players of that side. (Of course I’d swap them both for just about anyone we’ve had since). Who would you have upgraded from that side first?
  24. Agreed; I think the point I’m trying to make is that it’s hard to compare good players in great teams with good players in average teams. I’d take Worthington first, then King then Petrescu at left back of all the one’s I’ve seen. RB Nilsson (obviously), Sterland then probably Atherton. But I’ve had a couple of ciders so might have missed somebody....
