  1. Assuming we are talking here more about full removal of the roof (I.e ‘cutting’ the whole roof structure off, not just the roof sheeting), the weight of the lower parts of the structure (seating, concourses etc.) will provide the back-span and counter-weight to the cantilever parts, so it is unlikely that you could remove the seating for example, or make significant structural alterations to the elements within the concourse without that affecting the roof structure. That’s not to say it’s not possible to do these things, just that they would need (as with any structural works) detailed analysis and potentially other strengthening or temporary works to allow you to do so. The other way round, removal of the roof structure is less likely to impact on the capacity of the lower parts. That would still be very much dependant on an overall structural analysis and identifying the points at which you could ‘cut’ it. I don’t know the full form of the north stand - it is possible that the cantilever still wraps somewhat underneath the top levels of seating before it gets to supporting columns. What is more likely to be an issue if you were to cut away the roof is resolving the bracing - by cutting the top section off you may be removing plan (horizontal) bracing which would impact on stability.
  2. As a structural engineer, I’ve tried to avoid commenting on to the North stand threads. Without seeing the reports, knowing the structural form, details and defects (and ideally the condition first hand, plus also potentially doing some analysis) it’s hard to give any helpful comments. However, to provide some completely irrelevant comments on a hypothetical situation - whilst technically what you are saying could be true, given the age of the north stand it is unlikely to have been designed this way. As long as the roof bracing remained in place you would probably be able to remove the roof sheeting without causing notable undue issues with loading to the cantilever structure. What is possible however, is that if there are other defects of a substantial nature that have caused loads to redistribute somewhat, the roof sheeting could be providing some diaphragm action against wind loads.
  3. If he’s getting £2m/year from the stadium rent, he could let the club drop to L1/L2 to a level where it can be self funding, close north stand to reduce costs and avoid the repair bill, sit on the debt for as long as possible and keep getting his £2m/year income.
  4. Completely off topic here, but what are Birmingham doing to generate such revenues - I'm not aware of anything special in the way of conference or event facilities (that actually exist yet), hotels, massive amount of merch sales or otherwise. Are they expecting lot of player sales mayeb?
  5. While I agree with the sentiment, this, our wage bill and our estimated squad value, are all bottom end champ and that’s reflective of where we’ll be without the current manager who’s managed to get them to overperform.
  6. Same. Was really bland… couldn’t work out what the fuss is about. Much prefer a KFC (if you can find a decent one).
  7. Don't see that there would be any requirement for us to play him out wide this season with the amount of wide options we now have. Looking forward to him being the main man.
  8. While I think we’ve been looking good this preseason and looking forward to seeing us in the league, I wouldn’t pay much attention to results like this. Don’t forget that we have a manager who is probably much more aware of how WB play than Robins. We are likely to be better set up to counter them than Cov would be.
  9. No idea how he will turn out but interesting that he’s another incoming with a championship promotion on his CV (21/22 so not *that* long ago).
  10. Know nothing about football contracts, but off the top of my head: Contract length - possibly auto-extension based on performances Buy out clauses - maybe wants a lower figure Media appearances - seems like he is setting himself up to go into punditry so maybe clauses in his contract to allow him to do that Support doing coaching badges Whether he is allowed to do other commercial work eg. Advertising/promotions Holiday allowance Location of work BBQ Type of shampoo in the showers
  11. I wonder if we may be waiting for a top loan for one of the midfield spots. Conspicuously quiet with regards to that area compared with all the signings/rumours for other positions and we haven’t really dipped our toes in the loan market yet (Beadle aside which is a sensible decision).
  12. They’ll want him back in the UK for photos, interviews etc before announcing.
  13. So what you're saying is TJJ gets teams promoted? Lets bring him back!
  14. you can wait and see their accounts but there’s absolutely no way they’ve halved it. We didn’t even manage to halve our enormous one by going down to league 1! This is a nonsense site giving ‘wage bills’ for the 22/23 season (when the above accounts were for) which has Sunderland at just over £8m so as you can see, they’re just completely made up.
  15. Ipswich 22/23 - £19.8m wage bill Wednesday 22/23 - £14m wage bill while both will have gone up, I would bet Ipswich’s has gone up more than ours. (Still, shows how well Ipswich have done this year compared to parachute clubs)
  16. To be fair he did a video on them going down last week... He's pretty funny and don't mind his videos generally. He really does have a sore spot for us though - not just this video but a general theme across a lot of them.
  17. This keeps getting posted and every time its still completely made up nonsense. Ours probably are around the £14-16m range, but that puts us closer to the bottom 5 than the top 10...
  18. Amount spent on agents is surely just representative of the value of incoming players. No surprise at all that we're second bottom only to Rotherham.
  19. Yup. Still think we have one of the lowest wage bills in the league to go alongside the lowest spend on players. We’re basically Rotherham but with a bit more income from match days…
  20. Design life of a structure (unless highways/infrastructure/landmark) was 60 years at the time the north stand was built. So basically it’s at the end of its intended design life and likely due for substantial refurbishment. Hopefully not a major surprise for anyone that owns/operates such a facility…
  21. We definitely don't have the 10th highest wage bill...
