I would normally agree with you, but there were just a few too many "senior" players hiding today, I can accept being outgunned, but there was very little fight and not much to cheer until stoppage time really. A defeat was to be expected in hindsight, the manner of it though, was deflating.

Post of the year! winner right here.

They all left Thats as good as it gets for us for now.

Amass and Bannan have been our standouts this season, but other than that we are woefully short on quality, no power up front, very little pace outwide and a make shift defence and midfield pairing. I do think next season Amass will be on loan at an upper champ or lower end prem team. It is the poorest Wednesday side I have seen since 2003, the youngsters are all good prospects but as I have said elsewhere most needed a L1 or L2 loan before being thrown into the championship. Losing so many players has really set us back. But your lot were good value for the win, and annoyingly I can see this being the catalyst for a run for you now, especially if you can bring in some more firepower in the near future. Hope you had a safe trip home!.

They were faster to most of the second balls, about half our team did not look up for the fight or a Derby game and were playing to avoid injuries. Very poor one sided match, when you get out fought and out thought by Wilderbeast it is worrying. I know Ugbo is prime problem child number one but I was disappointed in a few of the senior players today. The occasion got to a few of them, but the timid way we surrendered the ball every time was the most worrying part.

That was one of the most one side Derbies I have ever seen. I am more angry at the lack of fight from some of our players than I am the result. But the difference in squads showed too, as I said in another thread at times we look like a school team with 2 or 3 teachers filling in the numbers, it will get better, and our expectations were low so it doesn't sting as much as normal. Still, the surrender was sad.

Windass had plenty of chances to leave before and stuck around, was one of our stand out players for the last 3 seasons and tbh deserves the chance of a crack at stepping up a level and the Netflix money. Hope he gets a good reception, Top player for us over an extended period, and scored one of the most important goals in the last 10 years.

I think it is just a combination of the usual pre-derby jitters and and their own growing sense of being poo this year. They know we are in a bad patch, but the majority of them do not know just how bad and think we are still the team that turned up last year with actual danger men in multiple positions and pace and power. Once they realise we are basically the equivalent of a school team with 3 teachers filling in where we are short they will calm down. That is no disrespect to the lads playing, they are doing a stellar job, but most of our team was still a year or two and a good loan spell away from being ready for a championship campaign.

Update on Supertram for the match this weekend

Nah but by the time everyone has got up from Kent and Devon they are too tired to cause trouble on the tram. -
Update on Supertram for the match this weekend
leftpeg replied to @owlstalk's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Buses are easier to police, trams have multiple carriages, much more potential hiding spots for trouble. Buses are much easier to "split" if they want to divide home and away support or police if there is a potential spot of trouble spotted. It is also much easier to spot problems on a bus, divert a bus, or stop a bus than it is a tram. I am pretty sure that is SYP logic. -
HP interview and Swfc write up in Danish
leftpeg replied to Depeche's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
HP, along with Bannan and Palmer really stepped up and gave the club leadership when it needed it. Like most I hope he is given a chance with the new owners. -
Honestly not a clue mate, I'm basing it off previous statements and roumers but the council seemed previously supportive of us moving. I am not ITK just giving my thoughts
-
If this is true, this is good due diligence, knowing that our ground is old, and in bad shape and prone to flooding it makes sense to look at a better location with better transport links. But knowing if its possible before going into things is just smart business, because if the council are not supportive then it would make developing the club a lot harder, luckily the council seem highly supportive of a move.

When the new owners are announced.....
leftpeg replied to podski1's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
There will be plenty of complaints. If we get a Saudi PIF style owner, I will be one of the ones unhappy. If we get an American owner there will be people complaining we are just a product and franchise. If we got some one like an Ashley there would be people complaining he isnt ambitious enough I doubt there is any ownership model that will please everyone, and that is fine. We do not always need to agree, aslong as the disagreement is done respectfully it is perfectly fine to hold different opinions to each other on clearly subjective matters.- 43 replies

Steven Fletcher - I wanted to retire at Wednesday
leftpeg replied to patolookalike's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
I was among those who thought he left for the money, it came across that way on the outside. I was wrong and if this is true, and given what we now know I am inclined to believe it is, it is just another example of how crazy it was that we even had a few good years at the start of the Chancer era. -
The amount of generative AI slop is unreal. Guarantee it wont look anything like that when its done, thankfully. But good luck to em, hopefully we are talking about us in this way some day.

Bannan goal v Norwich (unbiased Scottish commentary)

"On to that quicker than Hendos on a Sheffield Pie" haha that is class! -
While we have been the ultimate clown show under Chansiri, we have been a general clown show for a lot longer. The evidence was always there, SAF advising Moyes not to come here, the Houllier incident and several others come to mind, Atkinsons second coming, saving us from certain relegation only to be sacked seemingly out of spite for how he left the first time. Chansiri just took the clownishness to a whole new level, I just hope for once, to have rational ownership of the club with its best interests at heart and a vision for what it could be, I dont care if they have billions or not, just some common sense and a plan will do for now!

They aint wrong I don't care what the circumstances, a Derby win is 6 months bragging rights and listening to hand wringing and excuses, it can kick start a season and galvanise a team and fanbase. The derby is never a small game, nor is it ever a foregone conclusion. Post sounds more like making excuses before the fact, something we love laughing at other teams for doing. I want a win, and I will dream of a win, and hope for a win, and if we don't get one I will dust my self off and get on with life, but I am not going to pretend the result doesnt matter.

It is not "Shame" in the sense you are using the word. Football up until you get to the Premier league and parachute clubs is a meritocracy, Any club making it to the championship deserves to be there, and any club falling out of it, including us, does not. We will be back.

The 'soulless bowl' new ground debate
leftpeg replied to @owlstalk's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
I always felt the people who made this kind of argument pointed to the likes of West Hams move, which in fairness was more to do with the bad design of the stadium initially from a football perspective than anything, the initial distance from the pitch for the fans made it harder for them to be heard. Premier league London Clubs in general have way too many football tourists and corporate sponsors to get things going in their "soulless bowls" and yet still manage. There is a lot of romantacising of history because people don't change, but if you offered me an experience you get at the likes of Wembley, Spurs new ground or any of the other decent custom built stadiums with our fanbase, I am pretty sure the atmosphere would be just fine. Fans make the atmosphere not the ground, if the soulless bowls lack atmosphere it is because the club lost touch with its fans and brought in too many Instagrammers, tourists and corporate types rather than making it accessible to their core fanbase. Don't forget, that when you see a game on TV, large amounts of the crowd noise are piped in by the broadcaster. -

All Home Games Until End Of Year Now On Sale
leftpeg replied to BIG D's topic in Sheffield Wednesday Matchday
Not 100% on this but as far as I know 1, Sky/SYP/EFL moving games around 2, People are often reticent to book things that far in advance, especially without some sizeable benefit 3, Cash flow, doing them as most clubs do means they have a consistent revenue stream from month to month. 4, Time limits/perceived scarcity pressure helps to ensure the impulse buys happen. -
If he could do a job in the prem he would have been picked up. Unfortunately for all his undoubted Talent he makes Rodwell and Abdi look reliable.
