  1. I’m also a season ticket holder at Gloucester Rugby and it’s semi final day in the European challenge cup against what is mostly the Italian National team in Benetton. Fortunately it’s a 3 pm kick off so it’s sky until H/T, then down the pub to hopefully watch Wednesday over the line on Sky sports. If it’s a double, I hope to return home before midnight. That’s very late at my age. Good luck everyone, we deserve it.
  2. I don’t post, hardly at all but I hope you will indulge me? I’ve been around a long time and at 11 years old I decided to follow Wednesday. Everyone in my city supported Man Utd in those days and I wanted to be different. It was our World Cup year and I watched Everton play Wednesday in the FA cup final. I just had to follow the owls as I felt so sorry that they hsd not won. i would stand along with other supporters at Gloucester station all following different clubs and get a train around the country to follow my new team. later I joined the 'london owls' and we would be welcomed at Hilsborough whenever we came. i joined the RAF in the 70's snd on being posted to Germany i used to ring the club shop to try and get the score at home games. it was the only way to get the current score and I recall a lady shouting across to someone to get it. A few years later I got to escort the Wednesday fans to White Hart Lane in my 'new job' my point, like many of my age ive been through some times with Wednesfay. i was beaten up on Birmingham station by Brummie skinheads aged 12 for wearing a Wednesday lapel badge. Ive watched them at places like Mansfield and Southend, and I didnt think I got nervous at my age anymore. yesterday I didnt know wether to stop watching the game and speed it on later or stick with it. i stood up infront of the TV for the last 20 minutes, this game certainly got to me even though Ive been thinking 2-1 or 3-1 all week. A Huddersfield win and a win over WBA for us and we will be all but safe, but maybe points st Sunderland is more likely? This morning I feel pleased for Wednesday supporters everywhere and for Danny and the coaches. i just wanted the forum to know it affects many supporters everywhere, not just the Sheffield area and some with similar stories. sorry for it being long winded ( i tried to cut it down) just needed to say it. i really think we will be ok now, hope so. Regards…
  3. I just think this is so sad. I’ve followed this club for over 65 years. I liked Danny Williams, Jack Charlton and ‘Big Ron’ but Darren was just about the nicest guy in football. Whatever has happened, it wouldn’t have been Darren doing anything to hurt this club. Quite unbelievable.
  4. I saw us wearing tangerine in the late 60’s early 70’s at West Brom. Makes sense as their shirt probably clashed? We lost and I got punched in the face on New street station by Birmingham City skinheads for wearing a Wednesday lapel badge. I was about 14. Not my best memory.
  5. I live near Cheltenham and they are quite proud of the three wins on the trot on evening games. They are no mugs in fairness and gave us a decent game last season. Rugby is king in Gloucestershire but don’t underestimate their strike force who do score goals. If we go top on Tuesday, we deserve it. Have a good journey for those that are travelling.Enjoy Gloucestershire.
  6. He’s 32, yes, half my age but I wouldn’t have dreamt of going out there this afternoon even for a walk. That heat was brutal and most 32 year olds would have found football tough this afternoon. He’ll win Wednesday more games this season than lose them.Next week it’ll be ‘Bannan is back to his best’ Good luck in Qatar whatever age the players are and even youngsters will struggle . Today in that heat would have undoubtedly affected him.
  7. I guess support confidence is low because we don’t have many outstanding home grown players and a couple were pinched by Celtic but I don’t understand why he would want to leave at this time? I’m sure he just wants a better contract and surely we can’t blame him for that? He was great working his way through the various age groups but he’s only just emerging in the first team. He needs at least one good season under his belt, hopefully this one?
  8. I can't say I have too much love for them {having been beaten up by their hard men as a 14 year old on New Street station coming back from our game at West Brom back in 1969) but they're team played their part tonight. They are a decent side and they will cause problems for our top 6 competitors for the rest of the season. I don't post much on here but I do look on this site at least once a day, so I am really interested to know why someone like Barry Bannan get's any criticism? In the absence of our best player (Keiran Lee) Bannan for me has been sheer class. I sometimes doubt my sanity when I read on here players being criticised when I think they have had a decent game. I know it's all about opinions but the guy was outstanding tonight and has been for most of the season. The same goes for Reach. A terrific goal tonight and his languid style may not get too many admirers but for me he fits Wednesday like a glove. I've been through some bad times watching Wednesday, even roped in at Mansfield but this is the best era I've seen for years. I love the WaWaW but why isn't it displayed on here? Rather than kicking lumps out of the players and each other why not cut others a bit of slack ? Probably my last post of the season but I wish everyone well. Delight in what is happening at the club and be positive. I guess I'm an outsider really but I've followed the club for over 50 years now and latterly it's as good as I've known. Try and enjoy it.
  9. Well the port has gone,,,,,,, but in the morning I'll be sober.
  10. Thanks for the tips I'll give 'em a whirl. I've followed this club for over 50 years. I had a great time with the London owls in the 80's. I've been in some dead beat grounds like Mansfield etc but I don't think I've ever seen a better spirit than this current team. Had some excellent managers, but not like the present guy? Gwan wednesday.
  11. I've run out of red wine. You know that bottle of port from Portugal you've got that nobody drinks? Well it's actually not that bad? In celebration of Carlos, I'll do my best to finish it. As will the Wednesday. Have faith.
  12. Wednesday have already exceeded expectations this season in the league. They then went out on Friday evening and built a 2-0 lead. you can't change human nature and supporters will worry, but I would say that Carlos has things pretty much in hand. In his interview he showed calmness by stating they will play the same way as they will always do. I can see Brighton scoring, but I don't see them stopping us scoring. Too much pace against a cobbled together back four. Their keeper should have done better too even though both finishes were excellent, so he wouldn't fill me with confidence if I was a Brighton supporter. Probably a draw. Well done the Supporters on Friday by the way. The noise rocked this little part of Gloucestershire. I suspect it rocked around most of the World if they were watching ?
  13. So much moaning about the Club lacking ambition and the quality of signings. A chairman comes in and fixes that. 8 quality players signed and the better players kept on new contracts. After years of little hope of promotion and seeing others wave the cheque book, we are now competing. The club has been transformed and is now a 'big hitter' in the Championship with more to come? So the chairman wants us to contribute to this by paying a bit more. Not in the Chelsea Arsenal league of spectator prices but high in the Championship maybe. If you can't pay that's a shame but if it means going without a few pints in order to support 'your club' then it's a price worth paying. WAWAW is a myth with some, as it is obvious that despite the fact that the current owner is doing his utmost to get this club back into the Premiership there are quite a few on here who seem to consider him the enemy. How about all pulling the same way and wanting the best for the Club? Surely if it is your club, then it's worth putting your hand a bit deeper in to your pockets in order to get us there? If Wednesday can at last get back in to the 'big time' can you put a price on it. We should all be in this together wanting the best for the club and if it means paying a bit more then just get on with it, How about 'Supporters' matching the ambition of the owner, or is that a too grown up concept for some?
  14. Having followed Wednesday from a distance for nearly 50 years I happened to be in Sheffield for the Newcastle friendly. Over the years I've seen some poor Wednesday sides, but I was pleasantly surprised by the starting 11 and in particular the defence. That included Kelhar, who I thought looked very solid alongside an impressive Loovens. I think he'll do well, and I don't quite see the negativity in this signing? Yes at least 3 players needed, and Madine should be offloaded as he seems to be content with going through the motions, but in my opinion there are at least 5 maybe 6 guys in that starting line up who could make any championship side. If MM does pull the plug on the deal he has shown in the past that he'll fund good loan strikers like Fryatt. I see no reason why he won't do it again. I'm sure that MM hoping that the deal will still go through has stalled that option.
