Went for Bannan who I thought had his best game in a long time. The Inglesson, Bannan Valerie trio worked well and allowed one of them to push forward and support the 2 hard working forwards.

Yeah I remember that one. 1978 If I remember correctly, the station was called Alfreton and Mansfield Parkway so me and my mates thought it must be somewhere in Mansfield. The guard at Sheffield tried to advise us that it wasn't a good idea but us teenagers knew better. I think the station is about 10 miles from the ground and not on a bus route, so we walked about 5 miles to Sutton in Ashfield and got a bus into Mansfield. Happy Days

Yep.agree. Not tall for a central defender, but competes well both on the ground and in the air. ( Ballard takes care of the high balls) Reads the game really well and has a good pass on him. Looks to me like a midfielder who has dropped into defence. C'mon Sunderland.

Agree with this. Not Danny's preferred system but a 3 man midfield of Bannan, Charles and Vaulks would have taken some beating.

Totally agree with your comments, a couple.of.other things that I would add. He is not scared to put in a niggly tackle to stop teams breaking away and his dead ball delivery is pretty good. He has only put in a handfull.of corners but 2 of them were the best we have put in all season.

Other team seem to get far more blocks in than us. Most matches we look certain to score then a player comes from nowhere and block the shot. we rarely appear to do this.

Looks like his confidence is totally shot. Against Swansea he had a great chance to get a shot away from centre of goal but passed to someone with a narrower angle.and he did the same again last night. How he gets his confidence back I don't know.

A bit like Burnley we played some nice stuff but ended up with nothing due to some very poor defending. Not strengthening during January is costing us badly. Beadle. 6. Not blaming Beadle for any of the goals but wonder if it is now time to give Charles a run in goal. If he is to be our number one next season we need to be sure he is up to the task. So far he has looked confident and composed and looks a very good prospect. I do wonder if his stature will count against him and would like to see how he copes in competitive games at this level. You never know we may have got a very good keeper under our nose.

So hard to take that scoreline after playing so well for 60 minutes. We missed some great chances during this period and 3-1 to us would have been a good reflection of the play. Thought the midfield trio did really well during this period and I hope that's the way forward. Beadle. 5. He kept us in games a couple of months ago but at the moment is not saving much. Valery. 5. Failed to stop the cross coming in for 2 of the goals, something he needs to improve on. Ihekwie. 6. Steady. Lowe 6. Thought he was better in central defence in the first half, turned his back on the shot for their 4th. Johnson. 5. Totally switched off and let his man getaway for the important first goal. Armstrong. 5.5. Thought his overall game was good but loses points as he missed two very good chances. Charles. 7 Once again ran midfield for us. Bannan. 6.5. So much better in a 3 man midfield, should have a shot early in the second half when he was put through. Windass. 5 His movement was good but another chance went begging, also poor control then gave away the foul that eventually led to their first. Smith. 6.5. Thought he led the line well. Gazzama. 7.5 MoM. At times they had 2 men on him and he still beat them both. He is really strong for such a skilful player. Thought the Burnley defenders looked a lot more determined than ours.

I thought we put in a really good all round away from home performance. Controlled the game and they caused us very few problems. I don't know if Swansea are as poor as we made them look last night. I watched them on TV against United and Swansea controlled the game ( midfield in particular) until they had a player sent off on about 60 minutes. Beadle. 7. Solid as he has been most games. Lowe. 7.5 Another player who has made me eat my words, good player who oozes a bit of class. Johnson. 5.5. Positioning not great at times a bit sloppy and not effective going forward. Inglesson. 7. Played a more holding position and I though he did well. Broke up their midfield play and kept it simple, also the bonus of the best corner we have put in for a while. Charles. 7.5. Another classy performance helping us control midfield. Windass. 8. MoM. I think he played the attacking midfield role really well. The ball he put in for Ugbo was superb and he layed the pass on for Smith to score. His shooting was poor. Gazzama. 6.5. Caused them problems all night. Ugbo. 5.5. Worked hard but still not firing. Paterson. 5.5. Not involved much. Smith. 8. Don't normally rate subs who play less than 45 mins but an exception with Smith who was excellent in his 30 minutes cameo

I like the way he gets stuck in and breaks up the opponents play. Also took the best corner we have put in for a while.

You have nailed it there. We have been absolutely hopeless with the contracts for our youngsters for years. We seem to have had a take it or leave attitude with no consideration of their potential future value. You only have to look across the city and see how they tie the youngsters in on long contracts then cash in.

Similar type of performance that we have put in a lot this season. Quiet for the first 45 mins but then the better team for the second 45. Couldn't quite get us the points yesterday but it has done many times this season. Beadle. 8. Unless one of the teams between 4th and 14th go on a magical run it could be that a lower than normal number of points gets you into the playoffs. This bunch of 10 teams are taking points off each other.

I Agree Wonder if his confidence had taken a bit of hit while he was with United. Looks good in the left central defender role.

MoM by a mile, great performance. Such a cooly taken goal and ran their defence ragged. Palmer. 5. Not a midfield player. Many times Danny has got his substitutes and tactical changes spot on but last night they didn't work, it happens.

Assuming Smith is off, with the players we have at the moment it might be worth a try. Play it into space for him to chase, where is electric pace would be of benefit. At the moment when he receives the ball deeper he tries to beat 3 defenders twice.

Sounds daft after a 3-0 loss but I thought the balance in the team for the first 60 mins looked good and we at least held our own against Leeds.
