    Can only assume the players handing their notice in are those wanted by the club. Once the resignation is accepted they are released, so a player we want rid of but can’t let go because they are in contract is unlikely to hand their notice in. After all we tend to pay high wages and they may not get that wage at another club.

    We ruined Rhodes. He was a fox in the box who had always played off a target man, Vaughan, Gested, but we tried to play him as a lone striker; was never going to work.

    Scored a great goal when we thumped Ipswich at their place in the early 90’s. Was sat with my Ipswich supporting Army pal and jumped up when he scored it. My mate said to all around it was battle shock (pre PTSD days) and that I was brain dead.

    I’d also go with Wim Jonk also, purely as the expectation was we’d signed one of the world’s best midfielders and he never played for us anywhere near world class.

    Without a pot to ******** in we need an undiscovered gem with pace, not an easy find. With his knowledge of German players perhaps look at stand out performers in lower leagues. Janice Mause at Ingolstadt has been getting some good reviews, plenty of pace and goals in an average team.

    For me the most impressive thing was the work rate. We closed down as a pack and put their defence under lots of pressure. No matter how much better than the opposition you are, it still pays to work hard, and we did that right up to the final whistle.
