In fairness to Giddings was that when the match was ongoing ?  Or when the ref was ‘deciding’ what to do ? 
 

Although I agree - a child knew that pitch was dangerous and it wasn’t going to last

No it was straight after half time when Pearson predicted it

It’s an easy mistake to make… the round ball is meant to roll, but can’t very well when in water, and Giddings just might’ve just not known that

I've heard his comments before, he really dislikes this forum.
